Help in Finding 1 Carat Cushion-Cut Diamond for Platinum Halo

Thank you all for your help. Every time I check here, I learn something new. Tyty, that round diamond is amazing, and it is interesting to see the size comparison. I've had to do all of this discretely, and I'm just afraid to go with the round diamond without asking her because I know how much she likes cushion cuts. Also, we're both in our 50s, so this is probably our last upgrade, and I want her to love it!

I got the ASET images, so I'll post them when I figure out how to do that. I really want to dazzle her, so if you don't think any of these will do that, I may go back to the drawing board and consider a round diamond.

I'm not a cushion expert, but I really like the look of the first one.
EDIT. the 1st of the three that you just posted ASET images for.

Thank you lovedogs! I only have them on hold for another 24 hours or so, can anyone else provide and opinion on the ASET images?

I would eliminate the 3rd stone. A little too much leakage under the table.

The second aset is showing lots of red under the table. Lots of nice light return.

The first one is also pretty decent.

Both the 1st and 2nd are showing some asymmetrical difference in light return. Asets are static pictures. In reality she will be
moving her hands/finger a lot.

I like both 1 and 2. 1 is a little bigger. I'm not sure which one I would go with it I had to choose. The video on #1 makes it look really crisp under the
table which is appealing to me.

See what others say.

Thanks Tyty. I really appreciate your opinion. I really want her to be thrilled, so I'm looking for a great diamond, not just a diamond that happens to be the best of a random group that an amateur like me picked. Would you categorize 1 and/or 2 that way?

One more question. On the 3rd stone, I thought the same thing with the leakage based on what you told me earlier. But when I saw the following image, it confused me. Doesn't number three look similar to the "Strong - Ideal Light Return" images, particularly the one on the far left?

Below is the summary from the person who prepared the ASET images. Does anyone else have an opinion?

"I reviewed the images again and here are the rankings.

1st 6743004

This one has an amazing amount of sparkle. The image looks like it was skewed slightly when it was taken. It has the over all least light leakage and it has a great blend of the red and green coloring throughout the image. It really shows the sparkle on the video as well. It is going to be eye clean.

2nd 6768746

This one is a really close second to the first diamond. It does show just a slight bit of leakage at the center edges of the diamond. It also has a great amount of color and sparkle within the stone. You can see this in the video when the diamond is spinning.

3rd 6498117
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-h-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-6498117

This one has a bit of leakage under the table in the center but has a great amount of fire and sparkle on the edges of the stone and this is shown in the ASET image."

I've been looking at a lot of ASET images for cushion cuts, and one thing that's showing up in my #1 and #2 that I haven't seen in other images is the white at the center of the edges. #1 has it on all 4. Is that really leakage, or is that some kind of fault with the ASET?

I can appreciate that you would like to surprise her with this, but as a woman myself, I can't stress enough how "picky" we can be about our jewelry. This is an expensive purchase and I would really encourage you to get her involved in the process, especially if this will be your last upgrade. Personal taste can be a very difficult thing to get right for someone else.

In jewelry, there a so many nuanced differences in the diamond and for fancy shapes, it often boils down to falling in love with a stone that sings to you, which may or may not tick all of the boxes that you originally thought that you wanted. As for the ring, there are hundreds of variations on the halo design that lend to a full spectrum of different aesthetics. Size of the melee stones, how they are set, how the center stone is set, the basket, the shank...all of these little details add up to designs that may be the difference in a ring that she adores vs a ring that she likes/or not.

Just my 2 cents, Congratulations on your anniversary

Thanks for your input. You are right, but I know her pretty well, and I think I am WAY pickier about her jewelry than she is! And one of the reasons I'm considering doing this without her input is James Allen's guarantee. I can send it back for any reason if she doesn't like it.

My preference is for ASET#2.

Based on what I've learned on here, I think I like ASET #2 better too, but there's something about diamond #1 that keeps drawing me back. Maybe it's what tyty said - it just looks very crisp under the table in the video. I'm a little concerned by the "leakage" at the center edges of #1, but when I look at the video, I see lots of reflection from those areas. I'm really teetering on these two!

Now I'm going to throw one more wrench in the works. Here's one more. This one is a little more than #1 or #2, but the video looks fantastic. The crown really seems to "pop" in the video. Thoughts? I'm going to make a decision tonight!

I finally made a decision. I ended up going with the last one in the post directly above this one, 6652414. My reasoning was that the ASET looks similar to #2 (which seemed to be everyone's favorite), I thought it just looked brighter and more crisp in the video, and the proportions were also a little better than #2. It was a little more expensive than #1 and #2, but it seemed to be very similar to the first diamond that tyty and others suggested early in the thread. That one disappeared fast.

Here again is the one I picked:

If for some reason someone thinks I've made a horrible mistake, the funds don't go out until Monday! Thanks to everyone for their help!

That looks like another good one. I didnt look at the video but just looking at the photo and aset I'd say it has nice light return.

I see you wanted to show your wife the JA page of your diamond. If the link was posted on this thread you should still be able to type it in and see the diamond. Then you could take a screen shot or bookmark it. Hope you find this helpful.

Thank you @princessandthepear. What I'd really like to be able to show her is the video shown on the JA page. I think she would enjoy having that. The ring is a surprise for her, and I'm afraid that JA may pull the web page by the time I give her the ring, since the diamond is no longer for sale. But yes, I will certainly take screen shots if all else fails!
