HELP HELP HELP….

Firstly – thank you so much to those that have posted and helped me thus far.

I am getting myself all tied in knots over what exactly to buy though and need some further pointers.

After much reading and research I decided on:-

1.3 ct to 1.4 ct
G Colour (or above)
VS2 (or above)
Polish – excellent
Cut – excellent
Cert GIA

This gave me a starting point to browse for a stone and use HCA tool and this forum to make my selection…. Now I am reading about fluorescence?????

If I add “none” or “very faint” to the mix, it takes the stones outside my budget, and I am not really keen on getting a smaller stone….

Please help…. what criteria should I, could I stick to, to get the biggest bang for my buck. Size is NOT my ONLY criteria…….. but surely it’s important???

Never gonna hear a girl say “mmmm that’s a bit too big”….

Any advice is gratefully received, cheers

Thanks so much

hi stubobby!

first, do not panick :)
flourescence is not necessarily a BAD thing. see.. a fluorescent stone gets a bit of blue glow in UV light.
some people choosing to get stones with warmer colors (e.g., from j downwards) actually prefer to have some fluo in their diamonds, because it helps them face up whiter (as in, the blue actually sets off some of the warmth).
however, in some cases, fluorescence can give the stones a milky appearance, with is not desirable for most buyers.

in sum, I think you should consider the following:
- is it light, medium, or blue fluorescence?
- does your girlfriend spend a lot of time outdoors (in the sunlight)?
- would she be bothered by blue sparkles?
- can you see the stone in person before purchasing, or return it if it looks milky?

you can also browse some pictures to see how this affects your preferences.

all the best!

no blue sparkles.

There are not very many people here who are bothered by fluoro - and considering how picky the average PSer is, that's saying something. :wink2: If given the choice between no flouro or fluoro, I always prefer to have fluoro. It looks neat, both in sunlight and under UV.

If you're buying from a trusted PS vendor, just ask if the fluoro causes any milkiness or haziness. This can happen in some cases, but the vendors will be honest in their assessment. Plus with a good return policy, if you see anything you don't like, you can always return it. I doubt it will come to that though...I've seen quite a few medium and strong blue fluoro stones now and none had any negative attributes whatsoever.

Fluorescence refers to how a diamond responds when subjected to ultra-violet light. Most of the retailers will tell you that fluorescence is bad, but many consumers actually prefer diamonds with fluorescence! The truth is that fluorescence rarely affects a diamond's sparkle and brilliance, and in warmer or lower colored diamonds, fluorescence makes them look whiter or more colorless. If the diamond only glows when exposed to UV light, it should naturally only matter if you are someone who spends their days in dark rooms with black-light lamps.
