New here. I have exhausted the internet and my brain trying to find "the ring". I have really small hands; I wear a size 5, and my finger is short and skinny. I want something traditional, yet unique in a way. I''m scared my beau is going to come up with something that is similar to my friends. I love pave setting, cushion cut (although sort of think that may be too much for my small finger), oval and emerald cuts. I don''t want 3-stone ring, my oldest sister has that. I don''t want any gemstones, my other sister has that. I have sent him so many different pictures because I am constantly changing my mind. I am not sure of his budget. I think the center stone should be no less than 1 carat but not 2 carats either.

Please help me find my dream ring for my little hands! I am so frustrated!

Thank you,
Georgiapeach

Hi Georgia... welcome to Pricescope!

I would go and try lots of rings on in your local jewellers... that way you can both see what suits you and what doesn''t.

You won''t know till you look. Sometimes what you think will look nice, doesn''t - and vice versa.

It seems like you aren''t sure what to get. Being on the other side of the screen, I can''t see your hands but my suggestion is to visit a few reputable/high end jewellery stores. Try on a few shapes that you like (cushion, oval and EC) in the sizes that you feel comfortable with (between 1 ct and 2 ct). Hopefully, you will be able to narrow it down to ONE shape and approximate size.

After that, you can think about the design. Be it pave, plain, whatever. While you are at the jewellery store, try on the various settings as well to see what fits your hands best.

I am trying to post a picture of my hand...but it will NOT upload! The size of the photo itself is ok. I can choose the file & click on ''upload'' and nothing happens! what can i do?

I have tried on a few rings so far. Stores don''t carry my size though; they all start at size 6. So I can''t get a real feel since a 6 is lopsided on my finger and I have not found a store that carries platinum and pave, at least here where I live. All gold and really small diamonds and plain bands. I want some sparkle!

Also I have always wondered this: Why is it that jewelry stores inside shopping malls only seem to carry solitare gold engagement rings? Really small diamonds too. I''ve just always been curious about this.

My boyfriend has suggested and tried to go in stores and look at rings with me, but for some reason when we do go into a store, I get all weird and can''t look with him. I would love to try some on with him and do the whole shopping for rings together thing. I get all excited and say oh yes let''s go look, but then we will go into the store and begin to look and I just feel so weird and say I can''t do this and walk out.

Has anyone felt like this? Gone through this?? I would love to get over this and be able to guide him!!

I can''t help you with your shyness other than suggest going by yourself until you know roughly what shape and size you want, then go shopping for THE ONE together. Many jewellery stores in shopping malls do not carry nice stones. As I said before, go to a higher end store or a family owned type store. They carry better quality stones and also larger diamonds.

Awww you poor thing! I can''t imagine being shy...Okay I can when the sales person is pushy, that always makes me want to run out the store. But try to relax and enjoy it or as someone else said, shop on your own. It should be a fun time!

A good way to find a high end dealer in your area is to look up a designer (for instance Scott Kay) and then use their locator to find the nearest store. Those places tend to carry other nice designers as well.

Part of the reason you might be so shy is because you haven't quited decided on what style you want. As others have recommend, go to a nice jeweler and try on a few designs to see what you like and don't like. Be very clear and tell the jeweler what you don't want and want and they should be able to work with you. Once you find something that you like, you can go with your FI. As for having small fingers, there are many of us on this forum with ring sizes, so don't worry, you will find the ONE.

Alternately, if you know exactly what you want, consider having it made.

ETA: Where do you live, we might be able to recommend some places for you to go.

Moonwater:

Thank you for the advice! I have gone into the one jewelry store here a few times, and still feel odd. Mostly because I''m a senior in college, and I live in a big college town, so usually I''m in jeans and a shirt. I try and not look like the typical college student, but feel like the sales lady is looking at me like umm yea a little underdressed for a jewelry store. Does that make sense? I''m just overly paranoid about my appearence! haha.

I need help with uploading photos. I have tried and tried to attach this file and it will not upload. I have re-sized it many times. I can choose the file and then click on Upload and nothing happens. It''s on my computer so there is no link or web address.

I am now OBSESSED with this site.

I live in North Mississippi.

When you attach the picture what is the file type. I have noticed that gif''s don''t go up very well. jpegs load much better.

Also, in response to wearing your college clothes to the jewelers, I wore sweats. A good store will make you feel comfortable no matter what your preferences and attire.

Now if only someone can find you a good jeweler in your area.

I have small hands as well (4.5), but always just bought what I liked instead of worrying about what it looks like. If you like pave and cushion cuts, you might want to consider getting a ritani endless love solitaire with a cushion in it. The ring is thin and delicate and would look lovely on smaller hands. Here is neatfreak''s thread with her lovely ritani with a .81 carat cushion: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/show-me-the-ring/my-new-lil-cushion-in-ritani-t60606.html

Don't worry to much about what you wear any jewelery store that treats you like crap on the basis of appearance is not worth the effort.

In my experience high end jewelery stores are always nicer then your average mall store :) which is fine by me cause the high end stores have more pretties that are prettier :P.

From your first post have you thought about something like Tiffany Legacy (or in style of dependent on your budget)? I was in there today and saw one for the first time and it is such a beautiful delicate setting perfect for someone with tiny fingers :). It is a cushion with a pave like you said you like but sooo fine and delicate I almost literally SWOONED, it made my heart go pitter patter.

Here is a link :) Tiffany Legacy Mind you online it looks monster bulky compared to real life.

GL with your search

and don't worry about changing your mind I have been looking for the past year and still have not made up my mind :) You will get there :)

You''re actually lucky that you''re a size 5 and the stock rings are size 6 . . . if you were a size 7, for example, you couldn''t even try the ring on. It''s a lot easier to use your imagination when the ring is a little too big than when the ring doesn''t go on the finger!

I know what you mean about going into stores and either feeling like you''re a "poser" or you''re wasting their time. Well, so what? The people who work in jewelry stores love jewelry too, so it''s fun for them to show you what they''ve got. And even serious buyers do not purchase on the spot every time they look at engagement rings. You absolutely have a right to try on all the rings in the store just to see what you like and then leave the buying up to your boyfriend.
