I went e-ring shopping with my girlfriend in person and she absolutely loved this setting from Brilliant Earth in white gold. I'm now trying to find a diamond on their site to go with it, which limits the options quite a bit.
My rough constraints:
* Budget: I was hoping to purchase a diamond ~$10k or less, but my max budget for diamond + ring is $15k.
* Size/weight: looking at around 1.5-2 carat. Personally, I thought the 1.25 carat we tried on at Brilliant Earth's showroom looked great and plenty large with the setting, but my partner wants larger and she's the one wearing it the rest of her life. She's a size 5.5.
* Clarity: I want it to be eye-clean, otherwise don't care.
* Color: D-H? In the showroom, H looked completely fine to us, but J looked a tiny bit yellow next to the setting.
* Cut: I filtered for "ideal" and "super ideal". I'm trying my best to apply the rules I found on beyond4cs, etc, but could use help
Here are some that I found that met my constraints + beyond4cs' recommended proportions:
* 1.51 carat, H, VS2 - 0.8 HCA score, $9330
* 1.51 carat, E, SI1 - 1.2 HCA score, $10410 -- this one seems inaccessible now :/
* 1.50 carat, F, SI1 - 1.6 HCA score, $10660
I initially thought the first one was best, so put a hold on that. They removed the GIA when I put the hold, so you can find it here. I emailed Paul and he recommended the third one. However, I wasn't quite clear why he chose that one and would love to get another opinion.
If I relaxed my filters slightly, I found a few more that met beyond4c's proportions:
* 1.51 carat, H, SI2 -- guessing this won't be eye clean?
* 1.40 carat, G, SI2 -- this one looks like it has really clear arrows to me, inclusions don't look bad to me?
* 1.40 carat, I, VS1 -- I color might be an issue?
* 1.65 carat, I, VS1 -- would the I color be an issue with a white gold band? Otherwise looks pretty good to me.
Which would you recommend, if any?
Also, I'm a bit nervous about the size. My girlfriend has mentioned multiple times liking the idea of a bigger diamond, though I don't think she's actually seen a 2 carat (all of the rings we tried in the store were 1.25). With the setting she chose, I feel like 2 carat will look _too_ large, and going up to 2 carat means I would have to either double my budget or compromise in some other way. Any advice on what to do there? Personally I think something in the 1.5 range with better properties will be better but I obviously don't want to disappoint her.
Any help is much appreciated!
