Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get your expert eyes on this — I’m replacing a lost engagement ring through insurance, and I can only purchase from Brilliant Earth. I’m looking for a 2.5ish carat oval lab diamond with as much fire and sparkle as possible — those are the top priorities. I have $15,000 to spend, which makes it seem really overwhelming.

I'm also happy to hear any opinions on settings. I’m leaning toward something simple and elegant — I like bezels, but I’m also open to vintage-inspired settings (as long as they’re not overly ornate). Solitaire or something with subtle sparkle in the band could work. No halos, please.

If anyone has time to peek at their current inventory or give pointers on what specs to prioritize for sparkle (especially for ovals), I’d be so grateful! I know ovals can be tricky, and I really want to avoid the dreaded bowtie. Thank you so much for your help!

Hello
I think you're going to have to size up 8-)

I know, but I don't want a huge diamond! The prices have gone down so much since I got my original ring and it was insured for more than I paid. I really just want a beautiful diamond like my old one, but I also hate to leave money on the table. I know now that Brilliant Earth is really overpriced, so I want to get the best I can without getting a ring that is too flashy for my style.

Sorry about your loss!
Just curious but what is the reason you’re restricted on where you can purchase?

I got the insurance through Lavalier when I purchased through Brilliant Earth so they were linked. At the time it was harder to get insurance for lab diamonds, so it seemed like the easiest way. They have been very good about it.

I am so sad about my diamond since I really loved it, but I am so grateful to still have my original engagement diamond from 2004. I had it reset by David Klass as a right hand ring and it is my prized possession!

interesting.
Our client’s experience with Jewelers Mutual has been very positive.
Never had a client relay an issue insuring a lab diamond.
They allow the insured to choose where to get the replacement.
They’ve also understand that some rings can not be reliably repaired- replacement is necessary in the case of some very fine micro pave pieces.

I’d definitely check the rates on a go forward basis.

Here are a few I saw, but I am having a really hard time knowing what makes them cost more and if it actually makes them look better. I want to be able to stare at it and love it forever!

Absolutely! At the time a local jeweler scared me by lecturing me about how bad lab diamonds were and how they were uninsurable. I know better now
