I have been keeping an eye on the forums for some time and I need some help finding a good SI1 diamond. I look at photos and view certificates and get scared off by everything shown on the certificate. I cant tell exactly what I should be looking for in the photos. I'm hoping someone here can help explain what I should be looking for or post some good looking diamonds for me. I am looking for a 1.25 carat or higher F-G SI1 for under $7500. I can stretch to $8000 for a higher carat/color/clarity if necessary. Am I just being unrealistic in my expectations or are there diamonds out there in my range and parameters? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to be looking at real diamonds with YOUR eyes. That is the only way you will know if the diamonds are eye clean to you.

Diamonds are properly graded from the top, so if you are looking from the back of the stone or the sides, you will probably be able to see many inclusions that you will not be able to see from the top.

When you find a diamond you think you might be interested in, then contact the vendor and have a frank discussion with them. The good ones will tell you what they can or can not see, and so long as you have a good return policy with the vendor you are working with, you will not have to worry about whether or not your eyes are better than the vendors eyes.

Hi,
In my opinion you have picked up the right color and clarity, but you need to also go with right Cut either Excellent or Very good.
Wherever you buy from look at the stone to ensure no inclusions are visible, if you are pursuing to buy online than looking at the Image would help you making right decision.
All the best

As a Jeweler, I work with many clients in your same situation and it is tough to find the perfect eye clean SI1. The plots can be scary, not mention if the inclusion(s) are possibly black or if it reflects throughout the stone. The setting also needs to be considered. Let's say it is eye clean but the inclusion show from the side profile, well then an educated jeweler will assist you in choosing the setting style to hide these inperfections so that when it is set and finished it appears to look as if it is a VS stone in the mounting.

Most NY based clients who are tired of guessing and referring to an e-salesperson for their opinion usually set up an appointment and see me in person so I may show them my top 5-6 diamonds within their criteria (plus some added sorting I do to make sure the options presented are really solid). I would recommend the same to you- based on where you are located why not see a local jeweler and let them know what you've seen online. They may be able to get the stone in hand to show you or something comparable!

Good luck :)
