My daughter's 16th birthday is March 1. I've been looking for months...I've stalked all websites listed here, also ebay, ruby lane, etsy, etc. having a hard time finding the perfect one. i've looked for loose also [lost a bid on jeffdvs on ebay recently].

Wants:
unheated untreated
more color [some are so colorless]
eye clean or better
i do like the aqua color more than deep blue
i prefer the square stones but round is ok...
white gold preferred
don't want it to sit up too high
1.25-1.5 carat ideal

....i know they exist, I've come close to buying a few.

anyone want to give it a stab?

Thanks. Trish

what does silk mean?

I'm eyeing a stone on a vendor site and they say

Soft light aqua-blue color with just enough silk to make it look like ice

color is close to 7457C pantone color card

If you don't mind sharing T, do you have a photo or a link to the site? I'm also shopping for an aqua, but want a heart-cut.

I know you alrewalrewady mentioned etsy, but if you search for aquamarine gold ring in just the vintage section in your price range and sort by most recent there are a couple of lovlies which pop up as recent adds. Vendors are adding inventory this time of year in anticipation of the holidays. Good luck!

i check etsy almost daily...i hate that when you click most recent you really don't get just most recent [they must let you pay to keep showing up on top]....anyway...

thanks for the help everyone...

here's the stone...still not sure about silk. ... feel like its a flaw they are trying to spin..

Is it maybe a little pale if she wants some colour? That seller has had lots of nice stones over time (I've been looking out for a nice Aqua too!)- maybe you could ask them if they have anything else in stock??

There are some nice stones out there. I've been looking for an aquamarine or a light blue sapphire myself feverishly, so I've been combing the listings! I'll post a few in a bit :)

thanks guys for the ideas. So appreciate it! :read:

$500-700 including the setting. I did find a white gold setting I like for just under $200. concerned about window as it seems to be an issue with aquamarines...

thanks again..

ithanks so much for the pretty pictures.

this is a sweet 16 gift so i don't want it to be much bigger than 1.5 carats. and i don't want it to look like an engagement ring.

Re: Help finding aquamarine ring for 16th bday $500-$700 goa

I have emailed an etsy seller about doing a stone slightly larger than one pictures. i love the asscher cut aqua. i stated i wanted untreated unheated.

his response was:

This aquamarine is from Brazil, it's untreated but it's best to assume there has been some gentle heating. This is often done in the mine and the miners have not always been honest so the distributor is uncertain if they have or have not been heated. The distributor has advised me to assume all aquamarine that do not show an element of green are heated and price accordingly. The stones that have been heated were put in an oven at 400F for an hour. When aquamarine with a greenish colour is heated, only the yellow is driven out leaving the blue everybody loves. I hope this isn't too much information, haha.

i haven't received this information before. i want it unheated because i prefer it to be aqua than the popular blueish...

thoughts?

stone in pic is 1.28ct 6.5 mm $129

i would want more like 7-8 mm

The stone in that pic looks rather blue to me!

If you are looking for something that still has some green, here's a couple ovals:

http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?/details/aquamarine/aq10502ad/&930512007

This might be a better shape, but looks less saturated and perhaps too bit (though maybe a good pendent ..)

if you compare the 2 pics i posted, the bottom one is more green than the top, no?

i love the octogan color but not the shape...and i just don't like the oval shape at all....

thanks so much. appreciate your help...

Re: Help finding aquamarine ring for 16th bday $500-$700 goa

ok...so the gem cutter who did this stone said he ordered some 'medium blue-green aquamarine from Nigeria. I could probably get about a 1.5 carat stone in my price range...Thoughts?

Also a setting I am considering... thoughts again?

thanks so much.

Nice!

The asscher cut is my favorite cut for an aqua.

Pretty stone and setting! I think that looks perfect for a 16 year old.

Re: Help finding aquamarine ring for 16th bday $500-$700 goa

so i'm thinking 6.5 is probably a good size for a teen...it seemed small at first but I started searching pictures on hands and 6.5 seems good.

I'm a little nervous as this etsy vendor is fairly new but it looks well cut...

Thoughts? Thanks so much for the help. I'm getting excited.

so excited. the gem cutter [is that the proper term?] contacted his favorite dealer with a picture of that color i posted above and they had a rough stone similar in color. He's going to cut 2 stones from it and let me pick. Woo Hoo.... Thanks for all the help.

Re: Help finding aquamarine ring for 16th bday $500-$700 goa

The first stone on this link is a blueish green asscher at around 6.5mm that I thought I would throw out there for you to check out.
http://customgemcutter.weebly.com/aquamarine.html
I have purchased a few stones from Matt and they always look better in person than in his pictures. That stone has been listed on his site for a while now, so he might be willing to do better on his price if the color suits what you are looking for. He's very nice to work with.
I'm not good at interpreting rough to cut stone color, so can't offer any input there. That's a nice setting you have picked and I think a couple of people here have it too.
