Hi,

My husband and I are celebrating 10 years. And I’m on the lookout for an antique cut pear in the 1,5-2,0ct range for a maximum of 8k.

I’m totally new to old cuts, I have no reference what so ever. I checked Old World Diamonds, and they don’t seem to sell any pears on their website at least.

I’m on a time crunch as I need to have my project started in a couple of weeks or so to be able to receive the ring in time. I know there are some killer eyes around here, and I’d love help from Pricescopers to find me a stone. Or rather, I’d be thankful for any help I could get.

Call Old World Diamonds and ask whether they have some old pears in inventory and kind of what you’re looking for. They don’t list every diamond on their webpage.

I don't know old cut very well, but I would think a pear that size would cost more than 8K USD. But I guess it depends on what color/clarity you are looking at as well.

I agree, a well cut antique pear in the size you are looking for, in even a fairly warm color will be hard to find and probably, more than your budget. Have you thought about a rose cut antique pear? Those seem to pop up a bit more often and can be quite pretty, but I'm not sure if the carat weight to dollar ratio is the same.

Hi,
I have about 3 options, I’d love some help to see if which one would be the best cut.

This is option 1, it’s 8k.

Option 3

I’m looking into potentially having a ring similar to @oldcutclubmember’s “Aurelia” made. So the pear is going to be the center stone.

I would choose #2. #1 doesn't really look like an old cut to me. I like #2's shape best for the type of ring you are hoping to make.

Do you have a budget for the setting? Ideas on who you will have make the setting?

#2

After you've purchased it, would you mind sharing your source? Down the road I'm interested in a pear pendant and I'd love to know where you are finding these.

Cheers and good luck with your ring project!

I also like #2 for this design! The measurements are smaller than the center in Aurelia but your ring size is smaller than mine so perhaps the whole ring can be made a bit smaller and still keep it to similar proportions to the overall design.

Sako (cjdsako on IG) is awesome, he has gone above and beyond to find me two of the three stones. I’m however thinking I’m going to pause this project, as I’m in Sweden and there isn’t much in terms of jewelry around here to try on, I realize I need to try something like this in terms of size to see how it will look. I realize after having done some measuring that I don’t have too much of finger real estate.

So, I’m making a u-turn. It pains me to not go forward with this project, but I don’t have much time to have it made and I need to try on some statement rings on my size 4-4.5 ring finger, before I can go forward.

And with my currency being crushed by the USD, it annoys me having to pay 35% more, than if I’d bought this a couple of years ago.

I’ll be making a new post for the project I’ll move forward with. it’s a five stone.

You should check out this IG seller. She’s based in Norway and may be able to find you an antique ring that will work. She has some beautiful rings which seem well priced. Plus, she’s located in Norway so the currency conversion won’t be as bad as to USD.

Your original statement ring idea sounds awesome! But since diamond jewelry is not as common in Europe/Sweden, it's a good idea to try it on and make sure it suits your lifestyle.

Five stones with antique diamonds?

It’s so hard when my preference is towards statementlike pieces. But as my husband said “when exactly are you going to wear this?” most around here wear plain gold bands, maximum 0.4 ct solitaires. wealthy or no. I’m ok with not being mainstream, but baby steps I guess.

I’m starting out looking at antiques, well initially I always thought I’d go with modern rounds, for precision. But, I’m absolutely considering antiques if they’re well cut. I’m just so unfamiliar with them, scared they won’t sparkle etc.

Can you ask for a wax mold to assess how you feel about the style?

Old cuts are just so magical when they are right. The sparkle is different-big flashes versus splintery. Aurelia, is one of my fave rings, btw.
