Hi everyone :wavey:
This is my first post in this bit of PS although I do lurk here. My mum has recently (today) just been given the official word that she's passed her Doctorate and I'd like to get her something special to commemorate it. I've got quite a strict budget of £150. (Her birthday is 2 days before XMas so I need money left over for that too!).

She loves big, bold colourful rings and I would prefer to buy it from a vendor in the UK to avoid import duties, if not then the £150 needs to include import duties if it's coming from the States. I've found a couple of examples but neither of them are 'special' enough? If that's the appropriate word to use, but it might give you some indication, she doesn't mind colour of metal and is happy with silver. Erm... Anything else? I think that's it to be fair, I know that's not a huge budget, but... Here are the examples:

So as you can see she really does like 'em big and sparkly!

Thank you in advance for your help!

What an amazing accomplishment! And a lovely thought too.

If I was after something big and sparkly like that I would opt for a Blue Nile ring. They are reasonable quality and well finished! Plus you get natural gemstones and silver, not CZs. Something in peridot, garnet or topaz or amethyst...

A few examples of things that might work for you, within your price range!

http://www.bluenile.com/london-blue-white-sapphire-ring-sterling-silver_33505?track=product&elem=image - not as big but a nice halo

http://www.bluenile.com/lavender-amethyst-white-sapphire-ring-sterling-silver_33504 and they also have it in citrine...

http://www.bluenile.com/amethyst-white-topaz-radiant-cut-ring_45027?track=product&elem=image also comes in garnet and white topaz.

http://www.bluenile.com/peridot-ring-sterling-silver_45043?track=product&elem=image

And a wildcard... I know you didn't ask for earrings but these are wildly colourful and a lot of fun: http://www.bluenile.com/multi-color-hoop-earrings-sterling-silver_44887?track=product&elem=image

A lot of those rings have matching pendants, earrings etc. which might work for a Christmas present?

Love the London Blue Topaz ring & apparently it got good reviews from customer feedback! Congratulations to your mom - that is a huge accomplishment, and you are being amazingly supportive in giving her something sentimental to commemorate her accomplishment. I think all around that she'll love anything you pick, but this is really touching and will certainly surprise her in a big way!

Edited to say: I went to buy the Topaz ring but it's not available to send to the UK and it's not on the UK Bluenile site....
