Hi,

I have been looking into finally getting an e-ring. I have been doing a lot of reading as well as flipping back and forth between where to buy from. I live in Canada so things arent quite as easy as for those of you that live in the states.

I am trying to keep my total purchase under 8k... 7k would be better as long as the diamond I can get is nice.

I think I have settled with Whiteflash to buy from as they have a setting I like.

This leaves me with around 6k for a diamond plus 13% tax (i live in Ontario)

I have been reading a lot about the 4Cs, as well as desirable proportions and dont know if I am looking into this way too much or not

I have decided I want nothing under a GIA excellent cut, then hopefully G-H colour, VS1 or VS2 clarity, and still be able to have a carat weight of at least .90.

There was also a number I didnt really understand where people were saying you should look for an diamond under 2.0, again i dont really know what this is.

I keep reading that people at PS will be able to suggest nice diamonds if you are unsure what you should get... so here is me asking for assistance :) I guess like most... I am looking for lots of "sparkle"

The 2 or less score comes from HCA https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

If you stick with AGS 000 diamonds, there's no need to run the HCA because the AGS grade is sufficient. GIA Excellent is more lenient and includes some that would not get AGS 000 grade. So, run the HCA on GIA Ex.

Whiteflash ACA rating means the stone has already met the cut criteria. You could look at SI1 stones and may find some that are eyeclean at very close range. Twinning wisps are some inclusions that might be eyeclean. Just make sure that they don't reduce brilliance.

There was also a number I didnt really understand where people were saying you should look for an diamond under 2.0, again i dont really know what this is. Just to clarify here. This refers to the use of the Holloway Cut Advisor here which is a rejection tool. It works by running 4 basic proportions and it calculates a result that indicates whether a diamond is worth further evaluation or rejection. Diamonds considered worthy of further consideration are those that score below 2. https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca
The HCA is very useful in the first instance for GIA Excellent cut grade, as the cut grading is proportion based and those proportions are averages, there can be GIA Ex with less desirable proportions and the HCA helps weed those out in the first instance. If you have images of the diamond in question though such as Idealscope, those always take priority over the HCA.

We will be pleased to offer some suggestions!

Thanks for the replies! The task of finding a diamond is stressful. Trying to find the best tradeoff of carat, color, clarity.

One diamond I found was

AGS-104070962036 which is well within my budget. I could go higher but I didn't see a ACA diamond only slightly bigger than this one.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
