I am looking for an round brilliant, H&A,G-I color, VS-2+ clarity, Budget $12k, no or minimal fluorescence, AGS/GIA certified diamond.
Plan on setting it on a custom designed setting by DK, with two 0.5ct G-I,VS-2+ stones.
Setting inspiration courtesy to tyty333 who directed me to a setting by Evangeline: plan to do rounds instead of tapered baguette.

If you can stretch just a tiny bit, I'd go for this 1.46 H VS2 ACA. I love H color and it is very difficult to find a stone just under 1.5 which avoids the price jump. This stone will be gone quickly, so please put on hold if you are interested.

Then, go for .40 each side stones. You'll avoid the price increase at .5 and that will even out the pricing to allow you to go with the better center stone.

See, all three perfectly matched stones for your ring!

On the right side of the chart, you see how .5 sides look and then below that, .25 each. I think you can tell that .40 is plenty big enough for a 1.5 center stone.

Wow....true to your name diamondseeker. .....Thanks a lot. Sorry for the late reply, just got back from work.
I like those three stone DK settings you posted as well. I will go with the 0.4ct side stones. It will help me add that money to the center stone.

Thanks wildcat. I am not really firm on the budget of $12K.

One of my friends is suggesting me to stick with the tapered baguette setting, instead of doing three rounds like in the pics diamondseeker posted. :wall:

I saved this from somewhere, but are they bezel settings?

What I will say is, side baguettes are pretty, but that style is MUCH harder to match a wedding band to. I would go with the three rounds. But do you have reason to think she wants/prefers a three stone ring?

No, neither of those last rings has a bezel. A bezel is metal all the way around the stone. The ring on the left is fairly horrible, but the one on the right is just a traditional three stone ring with engraving. I like it but it is to bulky for the size stones you are looking at.

All I can say is, a lot of times there are lots of stones posted to choose from, but I wouldn't even keep looking because those WF stones are perfect....as long as you think she wants a three stone ring!

You can have DK make that setting I posted but tell him you just want regular baskets instead of the petals, a straight engraved bar across each stone instead.

I'd rather have the H color, personally. The two stones are almost identical in size visually, so I would not go down in color and pay more to get a 1.5 over a 1.46.

So...after almost a month of perusing and lurking in PS, I pulled the trigger on
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.55-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-762226

Thanks DS and tyty for all your help.
I can still return this and place other orders. My top choices were
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.504-i-vs2-round-diamond-ags-104083953032?a_aid=GrayMatter
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3586208.htm
http://highperformancediamonds.com/shop/i/hpd7726/?shop=yes

Is there any reason any of you will pick any of these three over the one I ordered?
I got a really well explained email from "diamond concierge service" (Mods: pls remove this if it violates policies) explaining how the H&A in the one I picked was not exactly symmetrical and he recommended BG. But I wanted to save that extra 1000$.
Now, I am planning to meet up with DK in LA next week (I have to sneak away from my girlfriend and make a 2.5hr one-way drive to do this) and get his opinion on the stone. I am geographically limited and I have to organize everything in the few days I am in San Diego (with her ... :shifty: ...talk about keeping a surprise!)

Ref planned setting : custom three-stone round setting similar to what DS posted above.

Thanks everyone!
