hey everyone!
I do not usually post, I sit back and look at all of the pretty rings, especially the gorgeous halos many of you lucky ladies have :-) This weekend my boyfriend took me into NYC and we went into Harry Winston, De Beers and Tiffanys. Harry Winston was our favorite but not for 20,000 ... So with everyones amazing intelligence here on the boards of knowing so much about diamonds I figured I would come on here and see what you guys think...
First of all I am not the kind of girl that needs a 2 ct rock that has to be from tiffanys.. I found it to be helpful to try on the ring to see what looks large enough on my finger. My size is 6.25 and my favorite like I said is the harry winston micropave halo engagement ring.
I am curious on a few things...
1. If my boyfriends budget is around 12,000-15,000 What can you really get for that price... including carat size and so forth?
2. If his budget 5,000-8,000 What can you really get carat wise for that price and so forth?
3. Is it possible to go to someone like Leon Mege or Victor Canera and get an exact replica of the harry winston ring? If so, how much is a good ball park price for a 1 ct stone? or 1.5 ct stone?
4. Do any of you own a Harry Winston ring around 1 ct, specs, cost ?? do you reccomend them over everyone else?

MY boyfriend is all about good quality and i think that is why he has taken me to those expensive places, however I keep telling him i do not want him to go crazy and pay just for the name... but going in there is easier for him to just walk in and pick it out rather then finding a jewler to then find the stone and do the setting and pray that it comes out identical. He hasnt really set a set budget, but when we were in De Beers we liked the Aura engagement ring, similar to the Harry Winston and the 1.08 ct was 15,000 and he was okay with that, he felt it was a good quality name and said they are like tiffany prices. But i do not want him to spend this much if we can get more for the money elsewhere, with the same quality and identical looking.... I want to say thank you in advance and I am sorry if I do not make a lot of sense as this new and overwleming because I just want to find the perfect ring that I will LOVE every day for the rest of my life :-)
Thank you!!!

Christina

https://www.pricescope.com/diamond-search-results is the PS diamond search, under Resources tab at the top of this page. You can set the lower limit of clarity and color, pick your diamond shape, etc. and then set the limits for price. If you select In House, then you should be able to see a picture of most of them. "Virtual diamonds" are kept at the cutters, or some other place, and the vendors would have to call them in for inspection.

Some of those settings that are designer or custom (or both) run into the $5000 - $6000 & up range. too. Depends on how elaborate, the diamond wt., and the metal you choose.

Which Tiffany ring did you like? The one with the halo's is the Embrace.

edit: It's a lot of fun to look at Tif, HW, Cartier, etc on 5th Ave in NYC. Most of the people on this site don't buy there, but some do. I am not telling you not to buy there, if that baby blue box at Tif is your thing, then go for it. Most of the people on PS figure out they can get a better performing diamond and save lots of money on both the diamond and the setting.

Take a look at some recent posts on this forum and Show Me The Bling to get an idea of halo's and see if you like them. I got quotes from both VC and SK, and they were beautiful stuff, but saved alot of money going to ERD, others did to. Again, not telling you not to buy from them, its your coin. Good luck.

The halo settings cost around $4500 or so. So if the budget was $15k, that would leave you about $10k for the diamond. We can certainly help you find the best quality at a good price. I would not pay for the brand name either when you can get a setting and diamond that are as good or better than those brands. I did get a Tiffany wedding band and felt it was worth it. But honestly, you will end up with a larger diamond if you go this route of online diamond with VC or SK for the setting.

Seems the OP has 2 potential budgets, one is $5-8K, the other is $12-15K. If you spend $4500 on a setting, then your center stone will be smaller on the lower budget vs. a larger center stone on the upper range budget. If you are considering SK or VC to do the setting, then take a look at ERD settings, speak with Chris or Mark before you pull the trigger. I am not saying you should not go with SK or VC, but you will be very surprised and happy to see the price difference of the setting. There are people on this forum who did so and super happy. Best of luck.
