I recently bought a wonderful asscher diamond from an online retailer, and have found the perfect platinum setting for my fiancee to be. The jeweler who has agreed to set the diamond also will appraise it for insurance purposes for me if I want. Two questions:
1. Should I have a particular kind of "certified" jeweler appraise the finished ring?
2. Should I have a different person appraise the ring, other than the jeweler who will set the diamond to ensure that I have the most reliable appraisal (and, not to be too paranoid, that it is really my diamond that winds up being set)?
Thanks!!!
