Help deciding on an old cut line bracelet….

I think with old cuts sometimes they have a brown/champagne tint which is quite distracting I find. I guess the larger stones make it more obvious. I have a bracelet and I love the stones but wish it was a full bracelet. I think finding ones with all white and bright diamonds will be more $$ but it's out there.

Hahaha and I love a gold bangle too but gold prices are so high right now, it's so depressing.
I know, gold is so crazy. I keep hoping I’ll find a bangle on TRR or Etsy/insta or even goodwill auctions lol but you are in Australia, right? That shipping would give me so much anxiety. I do like the variation in color in the bracelet, there is one warmer stone that I actually love and makes me want a lowww color oec/omc.

So I uploaded another video and I don’t notice the window, but maybe I’m not moving my wrist properly? It’s not something that I’ve been very sensitive to I don’t think.

I don’t know if you saw my thread about when I purchased a line bracelet, but then I returned it because the seller was dishonest about the CTW? Take a look because that bracelet was also very beautiful and the stones were transitional and old euros so they were I would say a bit better cut from a technical standpoint. The bracelet I bought are old mines. The older it is the more wonk you’re likely to have and when you have a bracelet that has a ton of stones it’s going to probably have some that aren’t necessarily ideal range.

This is so helpful, thank you! Your bracelet is so fabulous. It seems bigger to me, the larger bracelet links are all just under 5mm yet your seems to have a bigger (better) presence.

Most old cuts show tilt windows like that. Mine in my ring do.
Okay, this is what I was thinking but wanted to know if the stones were poorly cut (they all seem lovely besides the two) or if it was expected in old cuts. I see it in my side stones in my ring too though it does seem better when I wear it one way vs the other. I’ve been hyper analyzing this one!

Yeah I am in Australia so it makes things a bit tricky. And I also have a bigger than average wrist darn it! So 7 inches will be snug. 7.25 will be perfect but hardly any come in that size with everything else that I want.

I have a bracelet that I have my eye on and they said it's around 5mm. So that's good to know @Mreader yours looks way bigger than 6mm.

I measured my current bracelet and the largest link is 6.9mm and the second one is 4.9mm so it gave me an idea of what to expect. Although my wrist is bigger so everything seems smaller lol.

Sorry about the delayed reply! I live in the US and had to step away mentally for a bit due to the current…chaos.

I was lucky enough to have a work trip to Australia years ago and visited Sydney and Melbourne. Incredible!

I feel like all the antique bracelets are 6.5 inches! The small one is currently w DK- hoping for a seamless extension! The other one was 7.25 though, so you can find one!

For anyone else following, I did return the larger bracelet. I still want a larger one in the future but I’m content waiting and saving!

Just a comical side story, that bracelet was listed as 8.25 inches but when I received it, it was 7.25. Not a huge deal, I let the seller know but when I returned it, he sent the following picture saying it was in fact 8.25… I won’t give any hints but I’m sure the savvy PSers can find the problem lol!

It doesn't quite reach the .25 for one thing, but also is the vendor including part of the clasp?

Good luck in your search!

I don't think that's how rulers work.

A hint, my picture of the length. To be honest, I did analyze his picture for a few minute before it clicked. Just a funny eBay story!

Omg it took me a second, ok, more like a couple minutes, I’m slow lol… I was like,

“wait, it’s 8.25… maybe I forgot how to read a tape measure …. Wha…. OHHHHH :lol-2: :lol-2: :lol-2:

That’s actually pretty funny lol

I get it. Yes, he's wrong.

Yes it also took me a minute!

Hey guys, I just used his tape measure and I’m 6’7” now!

It’s more diabolical than that…

Ok I finally got it wtf lol is that intentional??

Well I’m still impatiently waiting to see the two toned bracelet that DK fixed up for me. I have been in a remote area for about six weeks and he is waiting to send it.

So in my impatience, I did a VERY spur of the moment bid on a bracelet today and I won but I am now a bit shocked. I thought it would sell for more and it was a bit of a flippant “mm looks promising, I’ll never win but why not, I am a bit bored” (reminder, I’m in a remote area- think population 70, only accessible by plane) so I bid then left service for a few hours, came back and I won!

So honest thoughts? I’ll be home in a week and will be able to review it. I think it has promise though?? Truly that was a surprising win… I thought it would go for more?

Well, if it's what they claim, you certainly got a nice deal, and a return policy. Can't wait to see what you think and real life photos.

I love it and I hope you do too! Can’t wait to see pictures.

I am so jealous! I hope it is fabulous.

Yes that is the question….Is it what they claim? We shall see, I’m tentatively hopeful! I imagine they thought it would go for more so I do wonder if they’d cancel it. I’m newer to eBay so maybe that’s not a thing.

Oh good, glad you like it! I think the stones look promising…the pictures are not great but they look like old cuts and the profile some look chunky so I’m hoping they are good.

I don't think the seller can cancel it but I would think that it would be sent to authentication, although I don't see that in the listing. If it goes there and isn't as described, you don't have to buy it. I know others have had items that "failed" but they still wanted the item and were able to contact Ebay and still buy it. The one time I had an item that failed the sale was cancelled by Ebay. I think that if it fails and you still want it you have to be proactive and contact Ebay, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else can tell you. For instance, it might be a bit lower carat weight, or the color a bit lower and it could fail, but you may still want it. If it was only slightly off, for that price, I'd still want it.

As a seller, you can definitely cancel. I hope they don’t. Because that is a definite deal! Even if it’s not as high of a carat weight as they said, it’s still such a good price if it’s even close.

I had no idea a seller could put something up as an action and then cancel the sale. That's kind of against the spirit of an auction.

Agreed it’s unethical. But I’m just saying that there is an option to cancel an order. And usually there’s a drop-down menu with reasons for why. One time I won something that the seller “lost” and I was very suspicious because it went for lower than expected I think. And I sell on eBay and I’ve had to cancel one order when the same item sold on a different website the day before.

They haven’t replied to my message so I am a bit suspicious they will. No word still but I’m hoping they follow through with the sale!

I agree. It feels like there should be some protection against canceling a sale on an auction piece.
I don’t think it’s going to the authentication process so I’ll just have to review it when I receive it. Unfortunately, I’ll have three days to analyze/decide before I leave for a trip so I’m sure I’ll be posting lots of pictures/thoughts here to get expert opinions lol….assuming and hoping they honor the auction.

It looks beautiful! Can’t wait to see pics and hear what you think!

I’m slow.

Can someone explain the tape measure trick to me. The bracelet looks 7.25” using the tape measure marks to estimate length.

I don’t see how it adds up to 8.25” if you look at the measurements.

It took me a bit to understand and I measured it! The seller was using a tape measure that started at 1 not 0. He acknowledged his mistake when I pointed it out but it was just a comical moment. I was very confused how he was getting a measurement that was an inch different than mine but then it clicked lol.

I’m so curious to hear about your “accidental” purchase too

Any update @bee24 ???

I’m so curious to hear about your “accidental” purchase too

It has arrived and is patiently waiting for me! I had a delay in my trip so I’ll be home in a few days. We had some sad family news (cancer progression) and so I haven’t had anyone open it yet.

I’ve been analyzing the listing and I’m suspicious about the carat weight as it says the bracelet width is just over 1/8 inch (so just over 3mm?) which seems too small if the estimated ctw is right. There are 39 stones and 8.49 carats. I was calculating this to be the stones would be about .2 carats each which I don’t think make sense with the just over 3mm. I expect it to be under but I’ll likely feel annoyed if it’s significantly under! Perhaps other bidders analyzed this before bidding (who does that!?! lol) and that’s why it didn’t go for more? Anxious to see it though!

I’m so sorry to hear about the diagnosis :cry2:

Definitely take your time, we will be here whenever you hop back to celebrate or decide to return.

Sending lots of love your way

Oh thank you! It’s a stage 4 cancer that’s been stable for nearly 2 years that just had some new growth but we have options still so we are all hopeful! And while looking at the bracelet will give me joy, it may seem frivolous to my local family members so I haven’t asked anyone to assess for me. I’m sure I’ll be sharing pictures soon as my return window is small. Thank you again for your thoughtful words, PS became a surprising respite two years ago when her diagnosis was new and I will always be thankful for it!
