I could really use some outside opinions on lab ovals. Can anyone tell me what they prefer between this GIA and IGI? The person I am working with says the GIA is definitely better, a great stone, but another jeweler thinks the cut of the GIA is bad and they can see dark spots. Please help i could really use some outside opinions! If you could pick "1" or "2" and "top" or "bottom" in the comparison videos in the imgur link that would be extremely helpful. TIA!

I like the top one! Bottom one (to me) looks like there's a flat spot in the center right that just isn't as bright at angles, but would be curious about opinions from more seasoned eyes.

Thank you so much for the response. I might as well divulge the top is the GIA.

What do you think about a jeweler telling me the GIA had multiple black spots and didn't seem like a good cut. I know cut can be a subjective thing, just would like someone unbiased to comment on what that jeweler said. Thank you!

I'm not a jeweler, nor am I particularly experienced with ovals so I really hesitate to contradict someone with actual training and experience here! I think the main thing is if *you* like one over the other, since you'll be the one seeing it every day.

For clarification - the jeweler that isn't a fan of the GIA stone, did they also see the IGI? Not sure if they think that the GIA is objectively not good, or if they just think the IGI is better. Also - re: black spots, do you know if he's talking about dead zones or inclusions? Both jewelers could be right, in that the GIA stone could be better cut, but it's still better than the IGI.

More bow tie in the bottom stone.
But without an ASET I would not know if the top stone is good?

It was a statement regardless of the IGI, not comparing the two. I think he was talking about dead zones, but not sure. When I pressed him about the black spots all he said was that it had a bow tie. That's a good point about both jewelers being correct. Thank you!

Working on getting an ASET for the top one. I will tag you when I get it. Thank you!
