Any other due diligence I should do before making the purchase? I noticed others posting other types of images to check for light...any concern with this diamond? Otherwise, the bank transfer will happen today![]()
I have no concerns with the 1.6, things like ASET/ Idealscope images are always nice to have but those numbers are about as safe as you can get and I can normally get a good idea just from looking at the stone if there might be issues and I can't see any. VVS should be absolutely eye clean, H colour is an excellent choice and should be very white, no worries from me.![]()
Yay! How exciting. Thanks for all your help!
Went to Diamonds Direct today to get a better idea of what style setting I want. As expected, the guy I was working with claimed they could find me a better deal on an equally impressive diamond than what I found on BN. He spent lots of time with me and showed me diamonds with all different specs. We didn’t find one that I was crazy about, but I did finally get to see in person that the VVS is not necessary. In fact, I ended up liking an SI1 the most. He’s getting some more in the store for me, but suggested I move forward with the BN one and bring it in to compare to the ones he picked.
What are your thoughts? Will I have better luck online if I widen my search or will I just be more confused? Should I let him do the legwork for me and expect to pay a little higher price? I very much appreciated being able to see them in person. For reference: He was looking at SI-VS, I color or higher and 1.6-2.0 carats.
Good news- I know what type setting I want now!!
I doubt whether he can really be impartial.... The BN diamond looks to be excellent in every way, chances are any stone from him will be more expensive as that's generally the case and I don't know whether he could get you a better deal as BN's prices are good anyway.
What are your concerns with the BN stone? I thought you'd decided to go for that one? Also, will these be equally well cut diamonds he's getting in to show you?
No need to apologise, just trying to get an idea of your thoughts and there's nothing wrong with trying to get the maximum size for the budget!
Also, beware the term ' Ideal Cut' as that term is used rather loosely in the industry, you want to get the cut right as far as possible and 'Ideal Cut' really is no indication or guarantee whether a diamond is well cut or not, so if you do decide to go with him, please come back and either link to the reports ( you know to stick with GIA or AGS presumably) or post all the proportions for us to check out before you pull the trigger.
I absolutely will. My plan is to move forward with the BN one so I don’t lose out on that and regret it. And if I happen to find a better one, I will return it. So if you come across an amazing 1.6-2.0 for around 12K, send it my way!!
I raise you a beautiful J colour VS2 for under 11k bank wire.

Decision made! I was chatting with someone at James Allen about getting it set with one of their bands, and she was gushing about the BN one. Said there was no way she could offer anything better for that price. So there you have it. Sorry for the waffling...should’ve just trusted you guys.
Now new (amazing) dilemma. Do I go halo or solitaire with stackable?
