Help comparing 3 Princess Cut diamonds and blue fluorescence

Hi all,

I want some help determining which of the following three diamonds is the ‘best’ in terms of size of flashes, # of flashes balanced:

- Solasfera princess cut.
- WhiteFlash A Cut Above princess cut.
- Brian Gavin Signature princess cut.

I haven’t found a thread anywhere comparing these three specifically. When contacting the vendors individually of course they all said theirs was the best. I have a hard time just looking at the ASET images of each

I want an unbiased answer with pros/cons of each and hopefully rate them from 1-3, 1 being the best choice and 3 being the bottom choice.

Also, while there’s much debate on this, I actually loved very strong blue fluorescence as even in an F colored diamond it actually still makes it look ‘whiter’, plus I love the fact that it’ll give a beautiful blue hue under UV light and strong direct sunlight face-up. Will the blue hue also display if the diamond is perpendicular and not face-up, for example a diamond as an earring instead of a ring?

Thanks much in advance!

Re: Help comparing 3 Princess Cut diamonds and blue fluoresc

I just bought an F color diamond with strong blue fluor, and it is gorgeous. No milkyness or haze at all and its extremely clear.. Do make sure you can see the diamond before you buy it though. Hope this helps!

Also because many people stray from fluor you can get a great diamond with a discount because of it...if you can find a G-H color diamond with medium-strong fluor it will face up whiter because of it!

Thank you so much and for the prompt reply!

Can I ask a question/favor? I know that diamonds with strong and very strong blue fluorescence emit the blue hue when the diamond is ‘face up’ in direct natural sunlight. How about if it’s perpendicular, like instead of a ring, an earring?

Would you be so kind as to post two pics of how the stone looks both ‘face up’ and ‘face side’ in strong direct natural sunlight? :)

Yeah even with an F color it still seems to make the icey white WHITER, plus it’s a great effect. Now my only deterrent is finding the diamond with the BEST sparkle and torn between the 3 mentioned at the beginning of the thread I hope some good samaritan can help with that too.

I have a 0.74ct rb D color w sbf - I love it!

Here are 2 pics of it from the side and from the top in direct sunlight. I'd say yes the fluor is noticeable from the side as well in real life.

As for which princess is best... those are cream of the crop stones. They are all going to be just lovely. There is a difference in appearance depending on how many chevrons each stone has; don't know if that influences your decision making at all.

I'd look for the largest stone (not carat weight - you need to look at actual mm dimensions), since princesses face up small to begin with, and also to make the sparkles more obvious. Find one with the color and fluor you like that's within your budget. Any way you can order more than one to be shipped to you so you can see for yourself which you prefer?

Thank you for those pics!

So the side picture in direct sunlight that I wanted to see was looking at the table of the diamond but having the ring as if it were placed on an actual table i.e. the hoop of the ring would be perpendicular to the floor, so if you placed your finger inside the ring from above, you’d touch the table/floor.

Does that explanation make more sense?

Yeah the top 3 are giving me headaches regarding which to choose. I just sent an email to Solasfera about whether or not they can find/cut me a diamond with the specs that I’m looking for:

- 2CT.
- F color.
- VS2 (or lower as long as ‘eye-clean’).
- Very Strong blue fluorescence.
- AGS triple 0 (and zero in cut grading) aka super ideal.

If they say YES, then hands-down the Solasfera blows the other two out of the water just look at this OMG (click on the ‘princess button’ to see the princess specs):

http://www.solasfera.com/discover/unlike-any-other/off-the-charts-radiance

The only retailer I found that carries them is Good Old Gold but I didn’t see a single Solasfera that had the AGS quadruple 0.

Isn't Solasfera a branded cut i.e. no AGS or GIA grading? Colour and clarity can be graded, maybe symmetry, but proprietary cuts don't get graded...

Re: Help comparing 3 Princess Cut diamonds and blue fluoresc

Greetings.

Just to answer your questions and clarify for ya.

1. You will not find any Solasfera Princess with AGS Reports for the simple reason they send them all to GIA. No need to be concerned in this regards as each Solasfera is cut to consistent proportions and most importantly maintaining the same outstanding optics from diamond to diamond. We demonstrate that in our store/lab via a number of methods which we publish online on each diamonds web page plus we have HD videos that show optical comparisons alongside of many types of AGS Ideal princess cuts.

2. Top grade polish/symmetry is also more difficult to attain when you're cutting a diamond with more facets like the Solasfera. I've never seen them get less than VG/VG but if this was a contributing factor to the beauty of the diamond none of them would be VG/VG. In round brilliant cuts GIA and AGS allows for 1 grade lower in polish/symmetry because 1 grade lower in polish/symmetry does not impact the optics of the diamond.

3. Proprietary cuts are in fact graded by GIA however they will not "cut grade" proprietary or modified cuts of any kind if it deviates from the standard 57 facet round brilliant. At this time GIA doesn't cut grade fancies at all. They will simply report on the polish/symmetry however I believe that will change. ;)

Kind regards,
Rhino
