Hi,

I am in the process of picking out my ering and am struggling to decide on a stone size. I am very tall and have suitable sized hands therefore my finger size is 8. I want a plain basket setting with delicate looking pave band and a cut corners square stone (haven''t chosen the exact cut yet) but I don''t know what size diamond will ''fit'' my hand. something similar to the look of this ring https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/i-love-my-new-radiant-engagement-ring.29538/

Has anyone had similar issues or photographs of the size they chose?

Thanks for your help in advance!

I have larger fingers and have decided on a 1.28 c center stone but my ring has about .80 cts in side stones as well so it really looks perfect on my finger.

If you are looking for a solitaire like the beautiful one in the link you provided, I would think that you would be perfect with anywhere from 1.5 - 2 carats. I may be biased though ... I placed a 2 c lovely on my finger the other day and I was drooling. Really nice size!!

What are you leaning towards?

Hi - I am a size 8 and chose a princess 2.02 center stone with three rows of channel set princess stones as my setting (the middle row is a bit higher than the outer two rows). My wedding band is also a row of channel set princess stones that sits flush with my ering (I will figure out how to post pics someday!). I think what you are looking at would be perfect for your finger. I know the rounds are really popular (for good reason, they are lovely) but I really liked how the square cut makes my fingers appear longer and slimmer. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for your help.

I''ve always been more of the smaller higher quality variety. And I want my ering to like feminine and delicate rather than flashy. So I s''pose I''m asking how small can I go with it looking silly and lost.

Any pic would be lovely, thank you.

I''m sorry I misunderstood. I completely understand and am right there with you on the smaller/higher quality track.

1.25 - 1.30 is a good size. More bang for your buck considering anything around the 1 carat range is going to have a premium attached to it.

Sorry, I don''t have any finger pics to assist you with.

Have you gone shopping for diamonds and taken a look at them on your fingers yet? If so, what have you liked so far?

I''ve only been able to see a limited amount of rounds and princesses, no cut corners squares. It''s difficult to judge from these as they are so different.

I have a .99ct cut cornered square (Princess of Hearts) that is 5.6mm. My finger is size 7.

I really wasn''t overly concerned with size because the setting is really important to me as well; I''m spending about as much on the settings as I did on the diamond, though I could have chosen a simple setting to get a larger diamond. I think it is a nice size on my finger, though most here would have gone with a bigger diamond rather than putting that money into a setting.

I tried on a LOT of rings... mainly thin bands (about 1.5mm-2.5mm) with pave. The Ritani pave and the Ritani single shared prongs looked really good. Simon G also is very delicate looking with good quality. I really like the delicate look and love the thin bands... and personally, I think they look good.

There is a thread in SMTR that''s all larger rings. I''m having trouble with my Search tool, but if you search for something along the lines of "size 8" or "size 9", you will probably find it. (sorry, I don''t remember the exact title.)

Here''s a picture of mine-it''s a 1.23ct and my fingers are size 8. I have lots more pictures of it here on my finger also

Are you set on a square shape, or would you consider something more rectangular as well? I ask because radiants come in square and rectangular shapes, and you'd still have the cut-corner that you want. My finger size is smaller than yours (5.25) but my fingers are reaallllyyyy looooonnngggg....so when I was looking I kind of thought that the square stones didn't really go with the proportions of my fingers/hands. In the end I went with a cushion with a ratio of 1.26 because I liked the way the longer shape balanced out my fingers. Just a thought....

ETA: Not sure how you feel about halos, but they are also a great way to add size to a diamond without blowing the budget (I've heard them called "bling on a budget!") That could also be a way to add circumference to the stone to make it look bigger and possibly more proportioned. Even the most small, delicate halos add a lot of size.

I have an 8 too and I''m a sturdy build - and I''m with you, I wanted to maximize our budget with a higher quality stone than size. I second the comment of trying a rectangular stone - my friends are always really shocked when they find out that my EC is a touch over a 1/2. A girlfriend of mine (with skiiiny fingers) has a radiant and I swoon over it every time - looks much larger than a ct and hers is also under 1.

At .62, here''s a handshot of my EC:

I wouldn''t mine a slightly more rectanglar radiant but only slightly. Its the flanders shape that I''ve fallen in love with.

I like halos very much but have not seen one that I prefer to the one in the pic I posted earlier.

Also my fingers are very proportional, I have ''normal'' hands that have been enlarged!

I tried searching for size # but it kept timing out. Can someone else see if they could find it for me? Thanks everyone so much.

Call me biased, but...have you considered an emerald cut or even a rectangular radiant? An elongated stone will look slightly larger for its weight and take up more vertical space on your long fingers. As for size, anything 1 ct. and above pretty much looks good on everybody. Good luck in your search!

The thread is "show me you size 7's and up!!!" It's under SMTR thread. If you go into my previous posts you will be able to find it.

I am also a huge setting gal, which is why I chose to go with a much more expensive Martin Flyer setting. It is shown with a rectangle radiant cut, but we chose to put an emerald cut in instead. I have always fancied the elegant look. I bleieve my BF decided on something right around 2ct.

You might also want to consider a longer cut [marquise, oval, EC, etc.] and set it East-West style. There are some beautiful settings. Just do a setting on east-west here on the boards and you will find a number of threads.

You might also want to consider a 3 or 5 stone ring. Diamonds by Lauren has a number that you can look at to get some ideas.

TY! I''m in the process of choosing a setting... I''m meeting with Maytal Hannah soon to discuss a halo split shank with step trap sides and variations of that. I can''t wait until I have the permanent setting!

Cool! I love the way it is set now so if you don''t change it for a while I''d say you''re good!

Can''t wait to see the new setting once it is done!

Thank ladies- lots of lovely rings and great ideas.

ANd thanks ladies for finding those other links for me!

I''m definitely a square girl. I like the harsh corners. I''m gonna have a hunt for some halos see if I can find one that I prefer to that solitaire. I think a .99 and up is the way forward though.
