Hi everyone! This is my first post and I''m hoping everyone can help me with my question. I am going to propose to my wonderful gf in Dec and I have been searching for the perfect diamond! She wants an emerald cut, and I thought this would be easier than I thought, but now Im learning about depths and tables and Im very confused. I have chose to puchase online because compared to every where I went they are $1,000s cheaper. Anyway if anyone can help me choose I have found 4 to coose from please let me know, thankyou very much!! Also I know she has always wanted a 2.0 carat, Im hoping a 1.73 wont be too much of a difference. Thanks again

i''d want to see #2 if it were me
the table and depth numbers are really great

but i would worry about ''warmth'' in the G color - everyone sees color differently and i''m REALLY color sensitive.

Use this chart to help you judge the numbers

http://www.gemappraisers.com/oldcutgraderules.asp

Great numbers don't guarantee a great diamond when it comes to ECs however. They must be judged with the eyes, so try to get some pictures at the very least. But the chart will help you to narrow down your search.

#2 is the only one that has the numbers I would want to see but the girdle will hold some weight and cause the diamond to face up smaller. Being the color fanatic that I am, I would not want an EC (which will show more color than most other cuts) lower than an F. You would probably be safe with a G realistically, assuming your GF isn't very picky about color.

I would want to know if #2 has a visible bow tie.

BTW, I just love

love ECs. What a lucky girl! What kind of setting does she want?

Can you get pictures of these stones? That would probably really help...especially when considering ECs.

Are they all GIA graded?

hey, jazmine..would you have a peek at the EC i just posted pics and idealscope images of?
i''d love your input!

I already did

she wants a solatare setting, I was thinking platinum, they are all GIA graded, Im just so nervous, because I dont think she wants it looking square and I was worried about the depth and table%''s that why I chose so many. Thanks for eveyones help so far!!

you know..i have a link....that allows you to see the different l/w ratios..

http://www.gemappraisers.com/shapePickerNew.asp

which is really cool - because i know to me, at least, the mm numbers don''t mean much - i had to have DH draw it for me!

Yeah, I was just going to look for that link. The L/W ratio on #2 is almost identical to the one forbidden is looking at right now. It is a great shape, IMO.

imahitter....

May I ask...did you find these stones yourself, or are you working through a vendor?

If it were me, I''d avail myself of the expertise (and most important eyes) of one or two trusted vendors to find me a perfect stone...

Good luck!

No Im looking on diamond.com, Ive tried to have vendors find them for me but they are too expensive. I was about to purchase the one with a table % of 73 until I started reading about them Im afraid its too high What I want wanted has a 1.75-2 ct with a color of h or better in a vs2 or better in a VG-Ideal cut, other then that I dont know what looks good without seeing it thats why Im asking everyones expertise, because Im not very familar, so I hope you all can narrow it down for me, thanks again!!!

Welcome, Imahitter.

I have to say I agree with Widget. Contact one or two vendors that you trust, and let them lead you in the right direction when it comes to picking a stone.

I have an EC in the same size range you are looking at. Mine is a G/VS1. You can see no hint of color at all.

Good luck!

Vendors will not charge you for looking. Try Whiteflash and Good Old Gold. Their prices are very competitive.

ditto!
Celina at WF found mine for me, when i looked everywhere and couldn''t find anything like it.
there was no charge for hunting and searching
and no charge to bring it in and do the analysis - there is only a charge if, once they''ve approved it, i refuse it...then i have to pay for return shipping/insurance.
all of which i felt was really fair.

so would I be able to give them my list and they, purchase them? then sell it to me, after they give me their expertise? I wasnt sure of how that works thanks

Give them your specifications. They will look for diamonds to meet your criteria.
