Welcome!
They are almost always fake unless you can confirm the provenance or are buying directly from Cartier. Personally, I would never risk it. The commoditized Cartier and Tiffany is the sweet spot for fakes -- easy to manufacture and so much baked-in mark-up. You could have someone knowledgeable look at the diamonds; I suspect they'd be terrible in a fake.
Fake. The markings look like the common fakes. The word "Love" on the edge is not on the real rings.
Thank you for this info! I really appreciate it! My gut was telling me it wasn't real. I was going to sell it, but I needed to be 100% sure.
Thanks again!!
I can't read what is in the cartouche, but if it is a * ,then numbers, then two letters it is a good chance that it is a real Cartier made in Italy. The letters indicate the city or region of manufacture.
I felt it was statistically highly unlikely to be real until I read the "seller said it was purchased in Monaco" and now I am sure it is fake. Unless you are in or from Monaco or you know the seller and it fits their high-flying Monaco lifestyle. This is precisely the type of meaningless phony provenance that scammers use. "All I know is that it's from Beverly Hills," "I found it inside a LV suitcase," etc., etc.
I only focused on the the ring itself (Cartier stamp, serial number, manufacturer,...),
They all have this -- never seen a fake without these. I know there are some "famous" serial numbers that pop up over and over. (Actually, I have never seen a fake in person but have seen many, many threads here and elsewhere and countless scammy eBay listings.)
I may be wrong about this one but this is "trust no one" territory for me -- like an unsolicited email offering me an exciting opportunity.
Cartier will not authenticate -- plus, I'm sure they'd need 1,000 FTE for LOVE rings alone. They are a goldmine for counterfeiters because the intrinsic value, while significant (it's gold), is dwarfed by the mark-up. So I am a total cynic about these unless grandma bought it new -- and anyone whose grandma was buying new Cartier is not here trying to save a few bucks![]()
Valid point of view.
...I guess I'm the only one who would get rid of a Cartier Love ring just because, on my puffy finger, it's the most unflattering Cartier ring model![]()
