Hello

I have decided to take the plunge and purchase a rock for my gf =) However, I desperately need some help with selection. I have been looking for a while, and have tried retail shops (tiffanys = WAY overpriced, local stores, etc.) and online.

I have finally found a diamond which is in my budget, but am not sure if I am missing something. Can someone please review and let me know if this sounds ok.

Also, besides the EGL certificate, is there anything else I should be asking for??

DETAILS:

-Round Brilliant Cut, 1.90 carats
-G color, VS1 clarity
-No fluoro
-Excellent polish, excellent symmetry, culet = none
-61.2% depth, 57% width, 15% height, Girdle = medium, faceted
-Price = $13,500

Thanks for your help!!!!!!

Welcome!

Well firstly we need to know which type of EGL report, is it EGL USA, Israel, Antwerp etc? EGL are said to be soft on grading in some circumstances with EGL USA being the strongest lab, so this is useful to know. Is this diamond with an online vendor, or have you seen the diamond in person?

We need the pavilion percent also please and the diameter measurements. Have you looked at any GIA or AGS graded diamonds?

If you were open to buying online, you could get a well cut diamond like these as a suggestion, you have a nice budget.

Measurements are as follows: 8.01 x 7.96 x 4.89 mm
Pavilion depth is 43%

The certificate I saw did not specify which EGL lab this was from .. all it said was ''Report issued by EGL'' at the top

As for my priorities - basically I would like the largest, sparkliest diamond I can afford =) Quality is a high priority for me, but it does not have to be flawless or perfect.

Thanks. Well looking at the measurements it appears to be a nicely cut diamond, I would really want to know which EGL lab graded this diamond before going any further though, as previously mentioned it is said that some EGL labs are more reliable than others. Can you get this info?

I would rather have the 1.7 ct I SI1 from Good Old Gold that Lorelei posted - that looks like a spectacular stone and a great price

thanks everyone for the help!!

am curious why you are suggesting the goodasgold diamond, if it is obviously smaller and more expensive?

thanks!!

If you mean compared to the EGL diamond you first posted about, because it has a reliable grading report which means the diamond will be graded accurately for colour and clarity, and it has a top notch cut which will make this a beautiful diamond. You know exactly what you are getting with this diamond, whereas previously noted, EGL are thought to be soft on grading in some circumstances.

Read this page here for info on how the grading labs rank, http://diamonds.pricescope.com/grading.asp

If you are considering either the GOG or James Allen diamonds, either could be a great choice, just check with the vendors that each diamond is eyeclean to your standards, if you don't want to see any inclusions from any angle at close scrutiny make sure you tell them that.
