I extremely agree with those who have pointed out that an 8 ct pear shape diamond is not a timeless choice. And considering the financial loss to sell an HPHT diamond and buy something else, I'd strongly recommend choosing a more classic stone such as an emerald cut, and that is the most classy cut for a huge stone, as well, in my opinion. It might also be easier to sell, other than you'll still lose a lot of money. I'm with all those who said they'd rather have a 4 ct natural, very well cut diamond over a 6-8 ct HPHT. I actually could see a young couple buying the treated stone in order to get a one carat over a half carat. They'd have little to lose down the road. But you'd have a huge amount to lose. She'll obviously see others in her social circle with fabulous rings, and I am just betting she won't love that pear cut forever.
