platinum earrings tomorrow! Finally!

DH didn''t really give me a huge Christmas gift this year ( a la B-Bag, etc. or jewelry) but did invite me to brunch and a visit to our jeweler tomorrow morning, much to my surprise!

I will let you know how it went...he''s going in with a budget, but I''m not, lol!

LOL, lim, a B-Bag means "Balenciaga" handbag...there''s a gi-normous thread on them in "shopping." Some of these PS gals are lucky enough to have gotten the bags for Christmas, or have a collection of them!

I WISH!

At first I was thinking solid plat. Then DH told me he thought earrings with diamonds in them (a small hoop version) would be really pretty so that got me thinking, ha ha. I went to our jeweler last YEAR to have a charm added to my charm bracelet, and to have my Tag watch band sized, and let our guy there know I was interested in plain plat. hoops, OR with diamonds...he just called my DH two days ago and said he had some in, so DH suggested this trip.

It''s with a heavy heart I reply back to this thread....thanks for all of your interest!

We visited the jeweler today (had a wonderful brunch first, though!), and I was rather disappointed to find that there were only a few things to choose from.

There were either some very, very basic hoops in solid plat. or two other pair with diamonds which were just way out of our budget. I''ve decided now to look into having some custom made with our price range in mind, possibly from one of PS''s recommended online vendors.

DH has given me a budget, but I may have to supplement it with my own moolah to get what I realllllllllyyyyy want, lol! OR, I would be content to find some really beautiful plain plat. hoops like i''ve seen at bluenile.com that maybe are a bit overpriced but look like what I''m wanting.

Basically, I want a pair of everyday hoops to wear that won''t make my ears red and swollen--I have a terrible nickel allergy that''s plagued me since a very young age. (I got my ears pierced in 2nd grade and 3 months later I was seeing cancer specialists because my pediatrician thought I had Hodgkin''s disease since my lymph nodes were swollen in my neck and head!) Nickel allergy city!

I can wear 14k YG, and even WG for a time. But I LOVE Love Love earrings, and want to be able to wear a pair morning, noon and night (I will take them out to sleep and shower). Hence platinum would be ideal. My e-ring and WB are platinum, and I''ve never had a problem with them against my skin, even sleep with them on every night.

OK, so basically DH gave me a budget of $500, and I could add maybe another $500 to that. I don''t know where to go for platinum hoops set with diamonds...I like the huggie style, but I also like channel set hoops, or even studs! Do I even have a leg to stand on as far as Whiteflash? I would love to get something from them (studs, maybe since they offer the trade-in policy), but I don''t know that I necessarily WANT studs. I am really more of a hoop gal, I guess. Any suggestions are certainly most welcome!

Oh, goody! LOL! My MIL also got us another place setting for Christmas...we''re finally up to 7 now, but still need to fill in much more, esp. with our flatware! I''m glad to hear yours is almost complete...don''t know if ours will ever be, but this year I DID take advantage of my MIL calling and asking me what we could use for "Christmas"--we didn''t "need" anything, but Dh and I both agreed it would be ok to put china back on the list for gifts since we have had one expense after another being homeowners and haven''t had the time or straight cash to just go buy china! I think it''ll work out well...at Christmas MIL commented that she''d better buy another place setting now just in case the discontinued our pattern, he hee!

I was browsing for earrings too and I saw these which I liked. They''re a bit over your bumped $1k budget though.

Also, if you have stud or dangle earrings that you don''t/can''t wear, you can get them changed to ear charms pretty cheaply and hang them from plain plat hoops for different looks.

I don''t know if they''re your style, but for a nickel allergy sufferer who loves earrings but not studs, would you consider pearls on platinum hooks? I have a pair from overstock.com and find them both practical and elegant.

Have you considered Palladium?

It''s way cheaper (at the moment) than Platinum, 40% lighter too and yet is from the Platinum family so no nickel problems. It''s also super-white.

ohhh I like the drop pearls from overstock
