Hi all,

I'm considering between a few diamonds and waiting for their sarin reports. Unfortunately Aset images won't be available but hopefully a sarin report will suffice?

There is one of them that has the HCA score of 0.6. I remember reading here that it's best to have a HCA score between 1 to 2 for ring. This one is 0.6 but all the grading is excellent for all of them including the spread which I have not seen much. Would you please let me know if it's a good one to consider or should I exclude it?

Depth 60.1%; Table 55%; Crown angle 33 and Pavilion angle 40.8 degree. Also the diamond is from 2011. Is that a bad sign?

HCA is an elimination tool. Generally speaking anything that scores less than 2 is worth further evaluation. We then like to review ASET and IS images to confirm performance.

As you may or may not be aware, GIA uses 2D modeling to report various values. What we see on the GIA report is an AVERAGE of those values for a particular characteristic (CA, PA, etc).

The Sarin report shows actual values used to generate the average. GIA can be liberal on their averaging which makes the Sarin report nice.

The table, CA and PA values work to put this in a POTENTIAL ideal cut category according to the AGS proportions charts. That depth concerns me and I'd want more info to further verify.

As far as the 2011 date, it sounds this stone was previously loved and taken in on a trade or sale process. Only you can determine the weight that carries for you. Assuming the stone is structurally sound it is all a mindset opinion. I'm weird that way and prefer new to previously owned unless all this is known and both you and your girl are okay with it. My girl might be okay with it but unless it was a family heirloom it would personally bother me. Not to say I'm right and for things other than an e-ring I might feel different. Just my 2 cents and preference is all.

To add to @sledge’s comment about the stone potentially being pre-loved (which I’m also leaning towards), I’d ask to see if they have a newer report and if they’ve reviewed that the stone is as was originally sold. The reason for this is because damage could have (though rare) occurred during setting and/or removal of the diamond from the setting and I’d personally want to ensure no additional chips, etc were added that could decrease its clarity grade.

A sizable GIA D IF?
I love it already :geek2::cool2:

Ditto others re. report age - getting that IF rating vetted would be a top priority! Do you have any photos of the stone?
