Question for those who have gotten stones from ERD...

Are they always much more amazing in person? Mark found me a G VS2 in my price range that''s the right shape and size. I just can''t tell anything about it from the photo he sent! Is this normal? I am a little concerned that it''s a G (would prefer an F really) and also that I don''t have choices yet and that there''s only one stone to look at.

I don''t know whether me and SO should be jumping to get this stone or if we should wait longer and see what else he can come up with. It''s hard for us to get to NYC and see them in person...

I''m just feeling confused. Any advice is much appreciated!

Note: I couldn''t figure out how to resize the pic in order to post it here...I''m terrible on the computer.

Meghan, it might help if you post the photo so people know what you''re looking at.

When you say you ''can''t tell anything from the photo'', do you mean with respect to color, to sparkle, or to something else?

If you mean color, please know that photographs really aren''t a great way to determine how you feel about color because the camera picks up more color than the human eye does in person.

If you mean sparkle, it''s the reverse. The human eye can see much more in person than the photograph can capture in terms of how lively the stone is, etc.

If you can''t get to NYC to see the stone, perhaps you can have him send the stone to you for inspection. Most vendors have return policies, so you could bring it in to see it yourself and/or take it to an independent appraiser and if you''re not completely happy, return it.

Yes - the photos aren't the greatest and you can't judge a diamond's beauty from his photos. What you can tell is the overall shape of the stone and perhaps symmetry. I am not afraid to buy from online vendors but I am still a firm believer in seeing the stones in person.

Unfortunately, I don''t think his pictures are up to par with his amazing stones. I think it''s still worth posting though and asking for opinions. Mark has pulled some amazing stones for folks even though the pictures weren''t great.
