Thanks for replying, Boom. Did you have to buy a stone first and then send it to him?
Do you think a 1.5 will be too huge?

Heehehe - Too huge.
I'm a 4.5 and I have a 1.26, I'd love a 1.5. I don't think it would be too big at all.
You have excellent taste - I love Boom's setting.
You're kind of in a tought spot - I (we) don't really know of anyone whose work is comparable to Mark Morrell.
His craftsmanship - finish/polish are unparallelled - so you might have to be patient with him and work with his schedule if you want his level of art.

Scintillating...

Mark just made my ring...5.5, but I think it needs to be sized down to 5.25. The center stone is 1.516, and I personally think it''s just right

Boom - I remember your ring and I knew it was a MM the second I saw it. Just beautiful.

I am thinking that MM is the one that will not take a diamond sent directly from the customer. I think he requires it to be sent directly from the diamond vendor.

oh that''s right. I''m pretty sure he doesn''t source main stones, so you would have to find that one on your own and have the vendor or indendant appraiser send it to Mark.
That''s true. However, I think he will make exceptions, because I sent my diamond to him directly, no vendor or appraiser involved and he sent the ring back directly to me. As always, it''s best to check with him.

A 1.5 is a great size, I might not have upgraded if mine was that size.

Thanks Mexi!

Hi,

Again, thanks for all the responses.

What do you guys think of the 2 month salary rule of thumb? I was consulting my GF''s sister and she said that she thought the rule of thumb was 1/3 of a years salary. needless to say, my jaw dropped. Am I out of touch, has it become 4 months salary?

DeBeers has different ad campaigns for different countries. I have heard it is USA-2 months. Europe-1 month. Japan-3 months.

It's all about advertising and social conditioning.

4 months is ridonkulous.

People gotta eat!

the mrssalvo rule: throw out the rules.

get what you can afford without going into debt. someone can make 100K and have 70K is student loans, that person shouldn''t be dropping 20K on a e-ring. that''s what upgrades are for

I think John Q says: get what you can afford
make sure you can afford what you get.
