I''m hoping the fabulous PS members can help me find my wedding band! I''m looking for a knife-edge band to match my Tiffany six-prong repro e-ring. The diamond is an .83, F, ideal cut, SI1. My fiance did the best job picking out a diamond and setting perfect for me and he did so mostly by scouring these boards!I have been on this hunt for weeks now.

I found the perfect band at a local jewellers. It is a knife-edge band in white gold with seven diamonds set evenly across the TOP. I know most knife-edge bands are pave settings with the diamonds on either side of the edge, but these diamonds are set right into the knife/tapered edge on the top in what I can only sort of describe as a bevel setting. Almost like a little hole was drilled and the diamond was dropped in. The diamonds are exposed on the sides in this setting, as opposed to closed in like a full bezel. The diamonds are probably about five points each and are, therefore, the same diameter as the width of the ring (app. 2.5-2.7mm).

Here''s my dilemma. This jeweller is pricing this ring at almost 3X normal. He wouldn''t let me take a picture of the ring and I can''t find it online anywhere. I''ve looked for hours! My own jeweller who masterfully crafted my e-ring (and comes highly recommended by members here) told me that he would make me the same ring for a more reasonable price (which is great because I love and and trust his craftsmanship)...only, I have to show him a picture before we can proceed. And I can''t find one!! I''ve been all over town and the interwebs to find a similar ring and I can''t find it

Have any of you lovely folks seen such a ring and can you point me toward a picture? Alternately, can anyone think of how I might get a jeweller to allow me to take a picture. The wedding is coming up and I''m running out of time -- and my heart breaks to think of picking out another band! *sigh* Please help!

(I''ll secretly be checking back here hourly - haha!!)

Thanks, in advance!

I think I''ve seen a band like that. It may take me a little while to remember where I saw it, but I''ll post it for you when I find it!

Thanks, so much, SaraPJ!

i''m just going to throw these pictures out there for you to help describe it further. does it look close to what I''ve attached? or were all the diamonds closer together?

This picture is the closest thing I can find, in the event it triggers any light-bulb moments for anyone. However, I'm looking for white gold and diamonds, seven of them (or any number that can give my jeweller some idea), placed evenly over the top of the ring (from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock), with a more eye-pleasing setting where the diamonds are slightly exposed on the sides of the setting. Also, no scroll work, designs, or anything of the like -- just a simple band.

Hope that helps

Is it something kind of like this band (on the right) from Van Craeynest?

I know this isn''t strictly knife edge, it''s kind of a split knife edge, but it does have the diamonds set across the top.

HTH!

keep in mind with the girdle of the diamond exposed on the sides, it will slowly or quickly depending the exposure to your e ring that it will eat away at your setting. I have a barset eternity and tried to minimize the girdle exposure of my diamonds when having it custom made, however I can still feel that the girld is going to rub my ering. so I will be wearing a spacer band. Just a thought.

D&T, you''re such a fabulous help! Thank you! That bottom ring is close to what the setting looks, if the entire band were tapered into a knife-edge. I wonder if that''s good enough for my jeweller to go on...

is this closer... this is an adwar cast it is 3pointers though... I don''t know if this is consider single prong or barset as the metal is quite tiny.

Thanks for your input. I''ve been wrestling with the issue of exposed girdles and the damage to the prongs. I''ve read through most of the forum posts here and they dissuaded me from getting my original choice -- a shared-prong half eternity. I''m hoping this ring will be a better choice -- but, of course, I''ll let my jeweller have the last word there, too. Anything to protect my treasured e-ring. :)

Well whatever you choose, I'll be excited to see the finish product. I love these type of rings.

and congrats!

Yes, this is much closer!! If you could imagine that the entire ring still looks like a knife-edge band.

Okay, seriously, I''ve spent weeks looking for pictures and you''ve all surprised me with all of these! Obviously, my google-fu is not as strong as I thought. Hahha!

the only reason why i remember these pictures and where they were from is because I''ve spend months looking for rings myself. Glad we can help.

zzaps - how about something like this?

What about this one???

KnifeEdgewithDiamonds.jpg

whitby -- that might be a nice backup option in case I can''t find my band. Thanks :)

That second one is very close, whitby, except the band I saw was a knife-edge. I wonder if this is good enough for my jeweller...

What about this one???

Thanks for your help, vgirl. That''s not quite it, though.

I''m overwhelmed by all your kind responses. Thanks, folks!

I can''t find the exact picture I was thinking of -- aghhh -- so annoying! Anyway, I think I know exactly what you want, a knife-edge band with the diamonds set into the "point" of the knife edge. These two pictures from engagement ring mountings.com

may help. I''ll upload the pictures. The first one is a wide knife edge with lots of engraving and a beading detail along the knife edge. Is what you''re imagining like this, except a plain knife edge band with diamonds set along (sunk into) the knife edge (where the beads are in this picture)?

The second picture is a narrow band with diamonds set along the top. Are you thinking the top with the diamonds would look like this from the side, but that the profile of the metal part of the ring would come to a point (knife edge) instead of rounded?

knife edge 1.jpg

Made it a little bigger...

knife edge 3.jpg

ugh -- too big.
Here''s the diamond band.

I say go in there with a secret video camera under a hat or something!

Seriously, could you also try sketching it for him?

You''ve got the right explanation, sarap333! I''m still on the hunt!

Elegant: I''m totally thinking of undercover work! Hahah :) Actually, I''m thinking of going back to the jeweller alone and then selling him a story of needing to show the ring to my fiance via picture before I go ahead and buy it. Hopefully that works. Unless I find something here first!

Let''s try this again.... :) How about this one???... but with round stones instead of baguettes and thinner???

KnifeEdgewithBaguettes.jpg

...or this one... but with more of a half bezel instead of the shared prong??

KnifeEdgeSharedProng.jpg

...or something like this without the scrollwork....

Hi vgirl,

If that ring had the diamonds set into the top edge of the band, sitting flush, as opposed to in a prong setting, it would look more like it.

Cheers!

But wait! What is this??????? Is this it????? but in white gold/platinum and larger diamonds????
