Have cold feet on my setting

I'm getting cold feet on my setting. The diamond is great - a round is 100% what I want. But my setting, while pretty, is lacking the main things I want. The main thing holding me back was I wanted a setting I could wear stacked with my wedding band. Now that I've been wearing it alone and realized I like it - I've decided to wear my ering alone on my right hand which gives way more freedom in the design.

I'm thinking of asking Chris to start over with the cad process and have him quote me for a hand forged design instead. Do you think this type of design will be okay in CAST or do I definitely need to do hand forged?

These are the three main design elements I want:
1) a vintage feel - milgrain and pave. No engraving
2) a solitaire prong setting with lots of detail and a unique look
3) delicate lacy setting which highlights the size of my diamond, and doesn't engulf it. Some vintage settings only work with large diamonds. I chose a 1.33 carat but I may raise my budget to allow for a 1.5 carat.

Here are some setting ideas. Does anyone else have thoughts, advice, or setting ideas?

1) Love this one. It's my favourite. Do you think it would look nice with a prong setting without the bezel? Do you think it would look nice with a mrb rather than an oec?

2) Another pretty look. Do you think it makes the centre diamond look smaller though?

You've started around 8 threads in the past few weeks about a new setting. Are you enjoying the process or are you finding it stressful? Could you maybe take a couple of weeks out to have a break? It should be an enjoyable time. If it is making you unhappy or worried you aren't enjoying it. There is no rush. You have all the time in the world. Take a break and give yourself some time before you make a decision. :))

ETA I'm not saying there is anything wrong with starting many threads! It just doesn't seem like you are having fun. Bling is lovely. You should enjoy the process.

Maisie I'm definitely stressed! And more so because I'm a decisive person and can't decide here! It's keeping me from sleeping frankly. I feel like I need closure but I'm not getting it?

Do you think time away from it will give me some answers?

Yes picking a blingy ring is supposed to be super fun! I think I'm researching too much and it's driving me nutso! Can't find something I like 100%. You may be right...maybe I should sit on it for a few weeks? Poor Chris!!

If you are anything like me you are probably spending a lot of your time thinking about this. It can take over! A step away can give you some perspective back and maybe you will find it easier to decide on your new setting.

I think you're right. I'll grab a coffee and spend time with my kids. And pop back into PS when I get some clarity! Thanks!!

I prefer the look at the first two.

I agree with Maisie though. Are you still enjoying this? If not, you could always set your stone into a temporary solitaire setting and give yourself a break.

ETA: I just saw your posts above with Maisie. Yes. Go get some fresh air.

Sounds like you are way over thinking this entire thing. I am not a fan of the second antique setting. I thought you said you were happy with your stone yet you said you want the setting that could accommodate a 1.5 not the 1.3 you already have.

This should be fun. Why don't you have Chris give you ideas they are so talented.

It's crazy but I think seeing all the crazy beautiful rings here is adding to my confusion. Thanks to everyone for your help. Signing off for now!!! I'll come back to share pics when dome.

Just want to let you know that you're not alone. I am driving myself crazy over the setting, too. <3

I totally understand how you feel, have you shared your frystration and confusion with ERD? They might give you some clarity but offering their ideas and opinions. I can tell you what I did, my husband and I started a secret Pinterest board. I spent weeks pinning every single possibly idea (whether the photo had prongs I liked to design I liked, etc). I finally printed out every single photo and then brought it to GOG to say- here are the elements, help me! Can you do that?

Go with the first one with prongs. It will look beautiful.

You may think this is your one and only setting ... but in all likelihood ... you will get another ring down the road. Don't over think it!

No real advice but just wanted to say I had a chance to try on the first Singlestone setting and I loved it!

Glad to know I'm not alone!!

Thanks everyone for weighing in. Logansapphire your photos remind me of the issue I have with many antique rings. I love the artistry and detail in them but ultimately I don't love the way they look on the hand. Thank you for sharing pics!

I got revised CADs from ERD and I'm loving what I see. They can pretty much replicate the JBEG setting I love so much. Being a jewellery lover my issue is I love too many things...but Charmy you're right I'm bound to have more rings down the line. That's why I'd like to keep my ering relative simple and 'neutral'...I'll save the fancy rings for my special occasion right hand rings.

I already have a tally list in my head (EC Art Deco style (artdecolover can't wait to see yours), rose gold bezel set oec, ruby in a diamond helo, etc etc).

My husband helped me to reaffirm that I love this setting! It's Iike my first ering but prettier!

Thanks all!!!

This SS ring will be mine one day...oh yes! She will be mine... In rose gold with a L or M EC.

I like the first one, with prongs or with a bezel. Either way. Stunning.

I love Singlestone rings, but honestly, I think they are best with old style cut stones. So I very much prefer the ERD solitaire for a mrb. I think this CAD looks much better! You are right that the SS settings can be future right hand rings with OECs or EC's, etc. that will compliment the settings more.

(Oh, and you are certainly not alone! Do you realize how many regulars here have changed settings?! I got my AVR at the end of last May, and I am no closer to deciding on a setting. I can't do it without trying some on, and I have limited access. I do hope to see some SS rings when I go to Charleston in May, though! Then I can compare those with what I have already seen, and maybe get a little closer to a decision!)

I love the new CAD. Good decision.

dS - Oh yes and like attracts like, which is why I'm constantly on here! I really don't want to change settings...I'd rather get something uber simple that I'll wear forever, akin to the perfect blouse or diamond studs. I tell ya it takes an incredible amount of restraint to go with a solitaire! Oh yay May is so very close, excited for you!

I covet many of the rings here and am constantly shocked by those of you who have reset or are considering resets!

Thanks Gypsy! I decided not to milgrain the pave crown as it will make the pave on there too tiny. Tough call but it works on the original jbeg so I know it will work.

Sounds perfect!
