Has anyone sent WF a non-WF stone for upgrade purposes?

Just wondering what your experience was. I wish I had just bought from them originally!

I would approach them directly and ask them if this is an option for your stone. You never know until you ask.

My experience with Whiteflash turned out wonderfully. I have worked with them since and would absolutely do so again.

A few people have sold their stones to WF and then bought one of their stones. Usually the diamonds would have to be equivalent to one of their normal categories of stones for them to want to do the deal. But the offer for the old stone will not be like upgrading one of their stones because you get full value of what you paid when you upgrade one of theirs.

If you're going to send them a stone they didn't sell they will most likely make you an offer to buy it.

I haven't done it before but I wouldn't be surprised if their offer is significantly lower than what you paid for the stone originally. This is not because of any ill will on their part but rather due to the difference in retail wholesale and prevailing trade in prices.

It might be worth it for their customer service alone.

great to hear, thank you!

*waits patiently*

who am I kidding. I am not patient.

I did! It was a flawless experience. They first wanted a copy of my cert and then they wanted to see the stone before they made an offer. I will tell you that the original purchase price of my stone was never discussed as it really didn't matter. Their offer was based on current market value and frankly, what the stone was worth to them. All things considered, I thought it was fair and I was just excited to be able to finally own an ACA stone - something I thought would never be possible as I had not originally purchased from them. My understanding was that they would only consider GIA or AGS graded stones for consideration and mine was an AGS stone. What their criteria was for making an offer is unknown to me but they did, I accepted, and purchased my new stone from them. I now have upgrade options through them available to me should I ever consider it. You can look back through my posts and find the thread. Price was not my only consideration in making this move and I hope you are able to be flexible too. It might be something you are able to do now with a smaller stone than what you had in mind but with the upgrade policy, could eventually get to where you want to be. Good luck and keep us posted!!

Do you mind sharing what percentage of the original price of your diamond was offered? This may not be kosher to ask! If not just tell me so!

I sent WF the cert for my BGD Signature because we really wanted to upgrade with WF for their great customer service. I was hopeful, but unfortunately, the trade-in offer wasn't enough to make it worthwhile. :))

thank you so much! I'm definitely open to all options, but have to say that WF and BGD customer service and quality is unrivaled (in my experience).

booooooooooooooo :(

To be clear, the prelim offer range was fair (at or above buyback % of current market value). It's just hard to beat the BG lifetime trade-in policy!

I had that stone for twelve years so it really serves no purpose to talk percentages as I didn't look at it that way and I know they didn't. WF had no idea what I had paid for the stone and that fact was of no issue to them. The issue for them was what it was worth to them at that time. Because it had been twelve years, you really couldn't compare prices apples to apples as there had been lots of fluctuation in the market during that time. I also bought that stone from a B&M store at a price that was higher than I could have gotten it for from an online vendor at the time. However, I was dealing with yet another trade in deal with that B&M and none of the online vendors at that time would even entertain taking an outside trade. That's why I say that price wasn't my main concern - I knew I was going to take a loss on the stone by either trading it or by selling it outright. That was the fact that I had to accept if I wanted to work out a deal. However, I really wanted an ACA stone and was in a position to not have to depend solely on the dollar amount to make it happen. Their offer was fair enough to me based on some of my prior deals and I knew it wouldn't get better than that. Some would have done it - others would not have done it - particularly if money was the biggest criteria. I also knew that I could not get a super ideal stone from that B&M so I would have never considered trading it in with them again. On the upside, I felt that I got a fair price on the new stone so even though I was out some money, I have been thrilled with my new stone. Sometimes we just have to pay for our pleasures! WF made an offer, there was no haggling between us and there was absolutely no pressure whatsoever from them either way. A real first class operation and I say that after having dealt with jewelers who would haggle prices like used car salesmen. The whole of that company is based on customer service and integrity. Of course they make money - they are in the business to do so - but they are polite and professional. After many trades through the years, I truly appreciated this aspect of the purchase!

This is why I so stress with today's PS buyers to go with a vendor with a great return policy. Had the internet, PS vendors, etc. existed in my early diamond buying days I would not have found myself in that position - I would have always had a good trade in policy and wouldn't have ever lost money in trades. There is no substitute for quality - even if it means having to start with a smaller stone and trading up as funds permit. I knew this was true for many years but consigning or selling outright would have probably netted me even less money because of commissions and fees. I saw the possibility of trading the stone in with WF as the chance of a lifetime and I jumped on it - and I've never looked back! Each situation will be different and has to be weighed on each individual's circumstance. I love happy endings and wish one for each of you considering this avenue of diamond buying!

I did and it was a very painless process. It was an AGS0 diamond. They asked for the cert number first and then had me send them the diamond. I felt their offer was very fair. I was buying my ACA either way but it made a nice down payment on my new diamond and I highly recommend working with Whiteflash.

I did it, too. I was happy with the price - less than 10% lower than what I originally paid. My only issue is that WF seems to carry a limited number of options for upgrades above a certain size. The process itself, tho, was very easy. I dealt with Brittany, who did a great job.

Wow! That's awesome! How long had you had the diamond? It was gia xxx, correct? I saw it in wf inventory, 3.6-I-vs2? It is beautiful!

Whiteflash has such good customer services I have no issues recommending them to others.

I hope they come back with an acceptable offer for you as I want others to get the same service I had.

Even after I had my ring shipped, I received a lovely email from Vera. Everyone I dealt with was quick in responses and went above to meet my demands. I am not the easiest customer to deal with and they answered all my concerns with a very welcoming approach for me to ask more.

"You’re welcome Sean. It is always our pleasure. You are not fussy at all, we deliver a very unique, high performance diamond along with some of the world’s most well-crafted ring settings and jewelry, we are used to serving discerning customers and truth be told, that is what we thrive on!! Being at the beginning of my 15 year tenure here, I can truly say we all love what we do here and with our team we have built a particularly sweet business, even though the majority of our customers only buy one engagement ring in their lives. Building a loyal customer base is hard in the engagement ring business however our customers to come back for wedding bands, earrings, pendants, bracelets, push presents, graduation jewelry and the like. I (we) are very proud of our Whiteflash world of joy!"

That, right there, is why I hope I'll be able to do business with them. :kiss2:

I hope that's the "love" emoji. Damn my old eyes!!!

I too wish I had gone with them instead of blue nile, I am always looking at the upgrade possibilities but dealing with blue nile is never a great experience for me even though I'm pretty easy. They always make it seem like it's too much to request info.
