Has anyone bought from Excel Diamonds?

Hello All,

I have been looking for a diamond for a while. I ended up on this website and glad that I did. I have gone to different jewelry stores where I live but have not been satisfied, especially with the prices. I am looking for a hearts and arrows diamond, at least 1 ct, color G, and have found a few from Excel diamonds the Superb cert. Are they reliable? Should I get it appraised first? Has anyone just bought from them without an appraisal? How satisfied where you with the purchase?

Do a search here, as I think you''ll see a lot of comments, mostly favorable.

Still, there is some history, with respect to the purveyor there, and this particular diamond board, that is not positive, and the main guy there, Barry, can be unpopular with some...and one thinks he''s basically his own man, and does not necessarily bend backwards to please...not a bad thing in itself, depending.

Generally, though, I think it''s thought he has quality merchandise, and significantly better than average technology for demonstrating same.

I purchased my fiance''s 1.33 Asscher from Excel Diamonds and had them create a custom setting for it. They did an amazing job, and were great to work with. I would not hesitate to deal with them again.

I bought my upgrade stone from them last year - they had what I wanted at the time I was looking. It is a beautiful stone - and I''m very happy with the stone and the Vatche setting I had my old e-ring stone reset into (the new stone from them went into a Jaffe setting I purchased locally).

The rock aside, the transaction went smoothly. Barry''s son Judah is particularly pleasureable to deal with. I''ll let Ira''s comments speak for themselves.

They do have a good return policy, so even if you get the stone and don''t like it for some reason, just return it. But honestly, I wouldn''t worry about it. They have nice stones. I will say however that if you ask for an opinion on how 2 stones compare, you may get a reply similar to "just throw a dart - they''re both beautiful".

Good luck - and don''t worry about it. If they have a stone you like, don''t be afraid to get it from them.

i second ira''s comments...really lovely stones but it can be hit or miss with barry...we have heard good and bad. he definitely is one of those old school types who does not like to be questioned (or his goods questioned). but if it''s just about the stone, then they surely do have really beautiful quality goods. every SC/excel diamond we have seen here (and i have seen in person) has been exceptional.

They have beautiful stones and ONE OF THE BEST TIFFANY''S REPLICAS out there. Judah had some stones brought in for me and he was an absolute delight to work with. Very honest, very down to earth, and above all honest. You can''t go wrong with a superb cert.
