i think i figured which diamond to buy but the vendor that I'm buying it through I dont like their settings.

has anyone bought both and have them set at a jeweler in town?

can anyone recommmend any websites to buy a setting at that is good quality and not overly expensive?

does anyone know around how much the cost would be to set it? and how long it would take?

I actually plan on buying my diamond from either WF or BG online.... but will be doing a custom setting at this place in Bryan, Texas (about an hour fifteen from Houston)

The guy's an Aggie who spoke to my class years ago about his business, and I've heard great things. Basically, he meets with you one on one and you and your gf design every little aspect of your setting. He creates it on AutoCad and then makes a wax replica of the exact setting you guys want. From there you see it before it's even done. I've heard it's a cool procedure to go through especially since my gf (not sure about yours) is very particular about the setting... This way, she'll be able to customize everything to her liking and I guess to a point, if she didn't like it, it'd be her fault haha

But yeah beyond that plug, I'd think a lot of people buy a diamond and have it set somewhere else. I would think that the place you buy the setting from could also set the diamond in it as well.... for little to no additional cost. Say you buy a diamond from WF but like a JamesAllen setting... I would think you could send over the diamond to JamesAllen and have them set it in the setting you like.

We just did this for MIL's replacement e-ring. We ordered a diamond from GOG. It was a RB so we went based on specs and HCA calculator, their fab images and all the knowledge I have from there. Then we ordered the setting from Adiamor for about $350 -- very reasonable compared to other sites. I just had it set today at a local jeweler that I trust for $35. All in all a total success!

Note: Bluenile will not sell diamonds without it being set in one of their settings. Super irritating if you ask me.

I got my diamond locally and had it set by BGD.

I did it for my previous ring. Bought a diamond from WF and had it set at my local store. The good thing of buying the setting and diamond from the same place is that they will take care of the setting process. If anything goes wrong and the diamond is damaged, it's on them.

However, if you have it set separately, depending on the place you set it at, you may have to take on the risk of it getting damaged during the process. I have read that the risk of it happening with RB is low but it can happen, especially if the girdle is very thin - thin.
