A good quality Amethyst, cut in a portugese round? Or maybe even someone has a pic? I am real close to deciding I want one for my next project, but want to hear your input.

I just got talked out of amethyst because it is a dull stone, but you can''t match the deep purple with reddish tones I have heard..
There are a lot on ebay

I disagree with that. Yes, your typical Brazilian washed out amethyst is ugly, but some of the deep purple African and Uruguayan material is gorgeous. For the price, amethyst in fine quality, is a very underappreciated stone. It doesn''t sparkle like some gems, but the color more than makes up for that. Just my 2 cents.

I would not call an amethyst a dull stone as well. An Uruguay with "Siberian" colour or 4 Peaks material with the blue and red flash are really something to see. My only concern is that it isn't suited as an everyday ring but is fine as an occasional wear RHR that is treated with care.

7-7.5 mm

Email Barry at acstones.com, or ask Gary Dutton at the diamondexpert.com. They are both my two favorite sources for fine amethyst. Stay away from Brazilian material.
