I am in love with the Harry Winston The One, Cushion-Cut Diamond Micropavé Engagement Ring. I am hesitant to pay the markup so I am trying to get it replicated.

Should I go for G VS1 or G S1 (eye clean), both XXX with no floresence to increase Carat size? Is it reliable to get it from a no name jewler as long as I am getting a GIA cert? Thanks so much.

No sure I'd go with a no name jeweler, but here on pricescope there are many vendors recommended who could make a similar (not exact... copyright laws) ring.

What is your budget and size expectation?

Some people put a round diamond in a setting like that because rounds face up larger and ideal cut rounds are easy to find and have amazing light performance. Cushion shapes are a little trickier, but amazing ones can be found. Which shape diamond do you want?

If you list your budget and what shape and size diamond you are looking for, people here can help point you in the right direction.

It’s gonna be about the setting. Plenty of PSers can help you find the perfect stone. Post your budget and desired specs if you have it.

GIA XXX does not mean you will get a well cut stone. Some GIA XXX stones are steep deep and have light leakage. You need idealscope or ASET to confirm. Also be sure to check the HCA of all GIA stones. Stones under 2 are worth considering with the confirmation of the aforementioned images.

You do not need to buy Harry Winston, a diamond is a diamond, just make sure it's certified. There are many vendors on here who sell great diamonds and who make gorgeous pave settings. I found Maytal Hannah on here years ago, and have made a few rings (with the help of people sharing info on this site). I have not purchased a new diamond (though I would love to), but I had my existing diamonds reset. My halo ring is similar to "the one", I just wanted the pave slightly less tiny, but that was a custom request. It is cushion shaped, but I had a round diamond, so that's what it is. I'm in love with this style setting, it just so shiny and all you see is diamonds.

The OP continued discussion in the 5 carat thread.
