Thank you Lorelei. It's not a holiday my kitties (or many animals that I know) like very much due to the very noisy aspect of the fireworks but we will be with them the whole day and evening and hopefully it won't be too stressful for the sweet babies.

This is the first July 4th in a long time that we have stayed in NY and we will have a nice view of the fireworks from our apartment and balcony. I hope to be sleeping by then though LOL. My dh will probably enjoy them and we can see them from our bedroom windows as well so we can enjoy the light show in bed.

I know exactly what you mean about the fireworks Missy, I dread 5th November due to a British custom called Guy Fawkes night, I detest that time as people don't confine setting off fireworks to that night only, but for a few weekends before and after. My horses and cats hate fireworks and I am always a nervous wreck trying to make sure everyone stays calm, so I feel your pain.

I hope you do have a lovely weekend and that the fireworks are minimal!

Happy 4th!! FI took me to Cracker Barrel for a good country morning breakfast, now I'm watching Independence day and tonight we are going to ride the peanut fields. I sound like a total hick and I love it LOL!!!!

Thank you Lorelei! Mine will be pretty uneventful as my husband is in the UK for work right now. I'll be with my nieces today. I actually kind of dread July 4th because the fireworks frighten my dog.

MayK, What a gorgeous view!!! I love waking up in the morning because I have a pretty view of a pond. I can't imagine what kind of a mood I'd be in seeing this view everyday. You lucky girl.

We are getting together with our daughter's family and their friends and neighbors for a cookout later this evening!

I celebrated by being in our city's parade as I volunteer for the local police department.
Got to hand out police badge stickers, tattoos, and dogtags to the kids (and a few adults too).

BTW, I read plenty of Residential Burglary reports where jewelry is stolen from a jewelry box on the dresser.
Please don't leave your jewelry there.

It's a beautiful day here in Chicago, the first 4th of July I can remember in ages where we don't need the air conditioner! BBQ on the deck, ribfest down the street and I can hear the music from my yard. Fireworks at 9:30 two blocks away!

Our neighbor has a huge BBQ every year to celebrate the 4th and they have terraced their back yard to be a perfect place to see the fireworks from.

I actually love waling my Labrador on the ditch bank earlier in the evening and every time someone shoots off some firecrackers or a bottle rocket she goes wild looking for the ducks they are shooting at. She loves to hunt and the sound excites rather than frightens her.

When we go to the neighbors though we leave her inside instead of her kennel, I would really hate it if some of the fireworks fell into her kennel and she got hurt.
