Halo option- open underside or solid?

I'm wondering if anyone has any info or opinions that could help me make a decision on this option. Is the open underside difficult to clean? Does it let in more light or are both options the same viewed from the front?
The open option allows you to see the back of the melee diamonds and has less bulky feel, but it sometimes looks busy...
Decisions are tough!

the open underside should make it easier to clean.

I'd want it closed. The other side of the coin is that less stuff can get up inside if it's closed. But, it's just a personal preference thing for me.
