Half carat OEC pendant project

It is pretty and looks very nice on you. If you didn’t want to spend any more money on it, and didn’t like the amethyst, you could simply eliminate the drop. However, if you like the color, then you are good to go! The diamond looks great in the pendant!

Your stone looks perfect in it, and I really like it with the amethyst! I vote keep it as is!

Oh I love it! I think the pop of color is very fun. Looks like an elven queen!

Okay just realized you said ELVEN queen. When I read your comment before I read it as “Looks like an ELEVEN, queen!” And I thought maybe you’d been watching some Drag Race tonight :lol-2:

I appreciate both sentiments.

I think it's lovely and also think that 6 prongs are plenty to make it secure. The ones who look like they could use retipping seem to be pretty evenly spaced and not all grouped together. Wear it in good health and enjoy it!

Oooh she's here! The diamond is soooo pretty and this is such a unique piece. LOVE!

@EllieTO Yeah the diamond is wonderful. It’s a 0.54ct J VVS1 per its report, not GIA and I think it’s more likely to be a K faint brown. It has probably the best classic OEC cut of any diamond I’ve owned. I think she deserves to be the center of a special piece.

I wasn’t sure how her color would look set but the light return is so good it’s just a sparkly white dot

This pretty pearl is on my way. I’m looking forward to seeing it and how it would look on the pendant. I find the amethyst is quite dark and it flips so I’m curious how I feel about this pearl which looks very shiny.

I really like the idea of a pearl. I liked the two amethysts in the original design, but your diamond is obviously better, and now the lone amethyst is really out of place. What is the size of the pearl, compared to the existing amethyst?

About the same size. Amethyst is about 4x6 and pearl is 4.7x5.8. I wanted the keep the proportions as they are just right.

Definitely both sentiments! I really love it. I think that pearl could be really fabulous too. Always fun to have a project!

Agreed!

I’m taking my time about any more changes. I agree the amethyst isn’t totally cohesive but in person it just looks like a pretty pop of color and I don’t mind it. I will see how I like the pearl… and tonight I was imaging a diamond drop again.

This is stunning! It's such a beautiful diamond and I love the proportions of the pendant alone and as a necklace on you. Seems much more 'you' than a solitaire would have been, too!

I feel like you have lots of purples or things that go with purples in your other jewelry so even if you never add another amethyst I think it will still be cohesive. I'm looking forward to seeing the pearl option, though!

I love your necklace and such a beautiful oec- it looks stunning on you! I hope you are always a little giddy inside when you catch a glimpse of a reflection in a mirror as you pass by…. So may congrats to you… you have certainly had a wonderful bling year, and it’s only half over!

Yes all week I have been enjoying wearing this new pendant so much! And I often play with the little dangle. It is bringing me much needed joy all day long, just like my other treasured prices. So I’m really really happy with it.

I took it back to the jeweler to have the prongs tightened and I feel quite satisfied now.

This is what I said I was looking for at the start an I feel like I nailed it:

… gold, antique vibes, engraving and texture, architectural details, and a little whimsy.

I do really love it. It has completely convinced me that a special pendant like this that fits my style is absolutely a staple for me. I love this pendant as-is but I would prefer a larger diamond closer to 7mm. So now I know that’s worth investing in.

I am still waiting for the pearl to arrive and I’m also trying to figure out the kind of chain I want. I’ve been buying inexpensive gold plated to try options.

I tried a 2.5mm figaro chain But the pendant didn’t travel smoothly on the chain and that bothered me. I think it was a hair too thick too.

I just got a 1.5mm box chain and I like it a lot. The pendant moves smoothly and I like how it’s subtle. I just want a little more heft so I’m going to look for a 2mm to try.

If anyone has other suggestions for styles of chain that have presence but allow a chain to easily slide let me know!

Wheat chain, maybe?

Antique rolo chain? The pendant is so magically beautiful, and looks great on you. Congrats on seeing this through to fruition!

I hadn’t seen this style before and it seems perfect! I am going to try and find a gold plated version to be sure.

Yes I do love a rolo but now I’m a little concerned that my pendant won’t slide easily on it, and that would be an issue for me. I haven’t seen any played versions of the antique proportions to try but I’ll keep looking.

I love that you are so happy with this! It's a unique pendant and more special than a solitaire pendant. It has character and a story. It's really lovely.

A wheat chain would be perfect then as it's pretty smooth and the pendant would be able to slide easily.

My little experimental pearl arrived. The good news is the pearl is lovely and buying it allowed me to connect with a Canadian Etsy vendor who I will work with again in the future as she is a lovely person.

But I don’t think it’s right for my pendant. I think a pearl can work but it needs to be larger, have a more distinct elongated drop shape, and I think it needs to be white to mirror the diamond or perhaps more silvery to match the antique pearls…. I suspectthey are natural river pearls but I don’t know if I want to go with one of those. And if I went with a pearl it needs a more substantial hook with a hat to better balance the pendant.

I will use the pearl in a pair of drop earrings I am planning. But back to the drawing board for my pendant!

I agree with you. I think perhaps a round pearl might be better rather than the shape you have?

I didn't consider round... The current drop is oval and the contrast with the round diamond is pleasing which is why I thought an elogated, narrowed drop could work. I will think more about round!

I actually like a round for it as well. Provides a cohesiveness in a multi gem piece. Love that diamond too!

Yeah this diamond is a real looker. Can’t take a bad picture. Of course IRL it’s just a little twinkly white dot :lol-2:

I’ll think about a round pearl but I’m not sold for some reason. I really like the little prongs basket on the dangle.
