Several years ago, I was helping a friend look into diamonds for his fiancee. I stumbled across Pricescope and was enormously enlightened; now I''m looking to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend :)

I''ve been talking with Jamie at whiteflash a bit, who has been great so far.

I remember reading a great article/webpage/forum post about the ''steps'' you should take when buying a diamond online. I''m sure I found it somewhere through Pricescope, but haven''t been able to re-locate the article. Like .. this is when and how you should have your insurance start, this is the order in which you should have it appraised, etc etc. Is this ringing a bell for anyone? I''d like to take another read through it..

Thanks!

Is this it?

Thanks for the welcome and the extremely quick reply! :)

I''d been wondering myself if that''s the page I was thinking of, though I thought I remembered a very detailed ordering of steps. Including something along the lines of:
Have the unset diamond shipped to the appraiser, send it back to get set (start insurance now in case it''s damaged in setting(?)), have it sent to the appraiser again, go pick it up, etc.

Ok, I will have another look!

My advice is, if you are dealing with WhiteFlash and buy a stone from them, preferably have them set the stone, and then use the purchase price to add it to your insurance. Two steps...very simple! Their stones have already been independently graded by AGS (or GIA in some cases), so AGS plus WF''s photos, idealscope, sarin, etc. is more than enough for me to be safe and satisfied. You don''t need a third appraisal unless you are maybe buying a $50,000 stone and just aren''t sure you trust AGS.
