Growing out a pixie cut

Well who knew?

Read some sites about curly hair (in my case very slightly wavy hair). Took the suggestions not to wash with sulphates and am using a no silicone conditioner to wash my hair. Then got a lightweight mousse to use instead of the paste gel I had been using.p (no silicones).

The hair is shinier, softer and the whites are glowing (I'm salt and pepper). I wouldn't say the wave has come in a whole lot more, but there is more definition to them. It's just much prettier IMO. I'm still in the awkward stages of growing but it's much nicer than it was.

I didn't ever think making a few simple changes could help that much! Thanks for the suggestions everyone

That's great Begonia!
You may still see more change, as your hair responds to the changes in your routine. Having wavy or curly hair can be an adventure

Ugh I feel your pain as I'm going through the exact same thing myself! o_O Cut it into a pixie earlier this year after desperately wanting to try it for years. I was elated for about a day...then wished fervently I'd not gone so short. My husband's reaction was also awful too,he instantly hated it & teased me about looking like a boy. I should have warned him in retrospect.... Now I'm trying to grow it out but is so slow and I feel very unfeminine. Had a few tiny trims to keep it neat until last week the hairdresser (not my usual) did not understand me (English is everyone's second language here) and basically recut my pixie at the back!!!! :cry2: I was livid but nothing I can do except wait to regrow again. It sort of "Claire Underwood" style at the moment. On the bright side I am growing out 15 years of box hair dye so my natural colour is quite nice. Ive started taking multivitamins but not much else we can do I think to speed growth up!?

Well, if you really hate it, you could do extensions...?

Nope, waaaaay to short for that!

:lol-2::lol-2::lol-2:

I tried to have fun with it for the first while - until I hit the ugly middle stage. I wish I had more to say that will help you. There were some suggestions earlier about good supplements. Basically I've spent the last 4 months experimenting with how to style the hair. That and pinteresting just about every hairstyle there is. At least this new hair will be nice and healthy?

I did get my hairstylist to give me about 3 ideas on how to style the hair and I kept alternating. That distracted me for a few months.

Well this is weird. My pixie continues to grow, albeit slowly. My frizzy hair was responding well to the curly girl method of no sulphate shampoos and no silicones etc. The waves were coming in nicely.

Then...last Wednesday I went to my hairdresser for a bit of shaping. She was very good about just taking 1/4 inch off and trimming the back up a bit. I mentioned that I don't use sulphate shampoos anymore and silicones but she merrily went ahead and used both on my hair when washing and styling. I let it go cuz I figured the one time couldn't do much and I would just go back to what I was doing. My hair has been poker straight ever since. Poker. Straight. Now to be fair, DH and I went to a resort for 2 days and the water was different there obviously, but other than that nothing is different in my routine.

I was really getting attached to my waves too :(sad
Thoughts??? Maybe the air is drier now? It's weird.

When I had to strip some color out of my hair one time* my hair person told me to use Dawn dish washing liquid and wash my hair three times. She said it would take EVERYTHING off your hair and then you could start over. Maybe try that and then the fourth wash use the shampoo you've been using that you like...?

Caveat: I don't know anything about chemical, etc., and how this might ADVERSELY affect your hair. But it's dish washing liquid -- could it really do anything THAT bad?

* Blondes should not dye their hair green for St. Patrick's' Day. Or for any holiday. Even if it's supposed to "wash right out." Trust me on this.

You are killing me with this
I will research this though!

I find that washing with conditioner lets my hair get wavier

That's what I've been doing for a while now Pinto, conditioner washing or co-washing. I use no sulphate shampoo once a week. It was working beautifully for bring out the wave and then...I don't know what...my hair went straight. It's weird.

Did you hit your hair with a sulfate shampoo after she used the cone-y conditioner on you? If you went straight back to sulfate-free shampoo or co-washing, you wouldn't be washing with anything strong enough to remove the cones.

Alternatively, the resort may have had hard water or something of the sort (although two days is pretty darn fast for buildup to occur). A chelating shampoo should do the trick regardless. Joico K-Pak Clarifying shampoo is a good one.

No, I didnt, but I'm going to now! Ok, hopefully that does the trick. Went to the drug store last night (only place open) and couldn't find one dang clarifying shampoo. I'll hit the mall today.
My waves are slight and something sent them packing.

So used a sulphate shampoo this am (going to mall later for above). The waves are starting to come back! Whooo hoooo! Thanks for the help windblownhair, deejay and pinto!

I'm really happy for you, Begonia. Good luck with the sapphire, now!

Deb :wavey:

Yay! So happy to hear that.

I know it's not a big deal in the big scheme of things but I'm sure glad to have the help! I'm pretty naive with hair (pixie for 25 years or so), so thank you for responding

Yep, on to that sapphire. Gotta sell a few things first but the hunt begins. I know as much about sapphires as I do hair

I was going to recommend Dick Hughes' Ruby & Sapphire, but then I looked up the price on Amazon. Forget buying that. It is out of print, which part of me knew, but I didn't really think about. Just go to Colored Stones and everyone there will chime in. I know much more about rubies, emeralds, and red spinels than I do about blue sapphires. I even know a bit about tanzanite because I have a tanzanite ring. But blue sapphires: no. And I assume you meant you wanted a blue one?

Deb

Yes, as close to 'Acinom' blue as I can get
It's intimidating when you don't even know where to start. At the beginning I guess...
