Does this look like a good combo to you?

http://www.fancydiamonds.net/View_Diamonds/692.htm

Here''s the diamond I''m getting (should arrive on Monday). It''s 1.05 carats and around 6.8 mm across. Here''s it is in three different rotations.

I''m not saying it''s the same quality diamond in the above link, but the color looks somewhat similar (to me anyways). I think the green would make a nice contrast with the rose gold, but I don''t know.

We''ll see if the diamond is a dud on Monday. It looks nice to my scatterbrained mind in the photos. I like the green color, and since I cannot afford a mint Tiffany color green, well, this is the best I can do for now.

Honest opinions please about the idea and the diamond.

I love colored diamonds. I think 18k yellow gold would look great.

Red and green - are you already in the holiday mood?

Now seriously, I don''t see anything wrong with mixing any two pastel colors even if they''re red and green. However a piece with that color combo wouldn''t exactly be easy to wear and combine with other jewellery and wardrobe; but if you wear a lot of neutrals there''s no problem.

White would be the safest to go for, and there''s also yellow gold that''s an alloy of only gold and silver, which has a greenish tinge, so it would work great too.

I agree with ma re; green and white in white or yellow (greenish?) metal would be a lot easier to wear.

Personally, I really don''t like pink and green, although I love both pink and green separately.

About the diamond - it looks like a nice spread, and decently cut for a fancy RB. Colour-wise, I have (painfully) learned never to trust photos on the net, especially when there are only a few and in similar lighting. My concern would be that outside of photo lighting it may turn out to be very dark. Have you dealt with Leibish / Ishay ben David before?

I have a number of greens and can honestly say the most aesthetic colour combination is yellow gold with green. White is also good but I would think would emphasize the grey tone of your diamond. Yellow might warm it up. Personally I don''t like rose gold with green but obviously that''s just a personal opinion. Hope it''s lovely when it arrives!

But are your greens more yellow or blue greens vs grey greens (what this diamond is).

The pictures are screen captures from a video of the diamond rotating in artificial white light.

I do like the cutting on it, the table is wider, and that makes for a larger spread overall than other diamonds of the same caratage. They don't have the same exacting standards on colored diamonds typically as they do with colorless ones.

I'm a bit afraid of white gold for the reasons that the diamond is greyish, and I think that might deaden it. I want something to emphasize the green, not the grey. That's why I thought rose gold would be nice since it's such a contrast. BTW, I do wear mostly black all the time.

Thanks for your honest opinions!!

Yellow gold all the way for green stones like that IMO...

I really like the idea of the green diamond with the rose gold: I think it makes it pop, especially when one considers the tonalities in play. An emerald-green stone, I might have qualms, but the soft green-gray tint of the stone against the faint reddish tint of the gold - mm, yummy! I think they''ll bring out the best of one another.

I like either yellow or rose gold. I think the white gold would not do the stone justice, makes it look washed out, JMHO.

I can see a pink gold bezel halo and then a yg shank...I saw a ring like this at a local jeweler''s, and the center stone was a champagne. Very pretty setting.

That said...I really don''t think the pink is going to be right with the green because the pink has a more orangey undertone while the green has a yellow or blue undertone. Because it''s a light green stone and the metal color is basically opposite on the color wheel, I think instead of the green popping, it''s going to look grey against the pink. I''d play up the green with a yellow gold halo, or if you want to be really different, green gold.

As a general rule, I''m not a fan of color combinations where the outcome is brown (purple and yellow, orange and blue, red and green...), though.

Given another thought (and after seeing photo of that ring you posted) I have to say, don''t do white. It would really accentuate grey since white gold is really "metalic grey" i.e. "silver" in color. But you might ask your jewellery if it would be possible to matte finish the white metal for the center stone setting, so that it has a "frosted" surface - hope you know what I mean. That would make it really white, so white reflecting into the stone wouldn''t make it more grey (at least in theory).

You might try doing this trick that just hit me, to have yellow gold as a metal, and light blue (for example aquamarine) side or accent stones. Since mixing blue and yellow creates green it might do a great job of bringing out the green from a stone.

I''m really not sure what effect would rose gold reflected into a green stone have on it''s appearance.

Personally I''d like yellow gold with that color, but that''s just me. I could also see it in person and totally change my mind:)

Does anyone have any pics of green grey diamonds in yellow gold mounts? Thanks again for all the opinions, you guys are the best!

I absolutely love the green color but I''m voting for white gold all the way

This is my all time favorite diamond in the world, the Dresden, and it''s the best green imaginable, but truthfully, it''s in white gold and it kind of gets "lost" in there. BTW, I would never compare my diamond to this one - that''s like comparing a motorboat to a million dollar yact, but just to give you the idea of green diamond in white gold.

I wonder what it would look like in yellow or rose gold?

I''d still take it, even with the "icky" white mount (just kidding - I''d take that mount with no stones in it!!).

Here is my FDGYG radiant set with green gold prongs...just ignore the setting!!!

I am actually planning on setting one of my greens in a double halo with pink diamonds and RG on the closest halo and white diamonds in plat on the outer halo, so I love the idea of pink and green together :)

OMG!! I just love that setting with the green diamond. That stone is TDF!!! You have an amazing collection. I assume that's a natural color.

Believe it or not, I was looking into getting a large square frame with diamonds in it (but in 14K yellow) for the diamond. Now that I won the LOGR mount, we'll see. It's like an art deco octogan shape around the diamond. I love the idea of a square frame around a round stone.

Two thoughts for you to consider ...........

1. How about using green gold? It''s more difficult to source than yellow/white/rose but some jewellers can get it. I think Diamonds by Lauren produced a piece using green gold recently so might be a place to start? Not sure if they make settings if the diamonds hasn''t been bought from them though.

2. Why don''t you wait until the diamond arrives and put it next to all three colour golds (if you have them) and see which one you prefer. Mostly I''ve found that the diamond colour will dictate the most suitable metal colour and be an easy decision as soon as you see it!

The problem with the second idea is that I don't have anything in rose gold, only white and yellow. The green gold is lovely though, that's a thought.

ETA: Diamond arrived, but I'm at work and cannot get to see it until I get home. I'm dying here!!

Hope it''s lovely - don''t forget to post photos!

Do you live near a jewellery store? Perhaps they have something in rose gold you could put your diamond next to????

Well, I could also probably put it near a clean bright penny too? That might work!

Thanks TL! I love your collection as well!!!

It is natural, GIA certified. Mine has med. blue fluorescence too-so holding it next to rose gold looks nice! Depends if you like contrasting or complimentary colors for you jewelry-contrasting(rose gold) will make your stone POP and complimentary(green or yellow gold) will match and blend in more to the stone.

Can't wait to see pics of your new stone, do you have a favorite buyer for your colored diamonds???
