I was just told that single pearls can't be certified gran/supearl unless they meet a specific size requirement (I assume it doesn't apply to strands, but didn't ask).

Specifically, I was told that to be considered, single pearls need to be 9mm+. Has anyone heard that before? Very interesting to me if true! @yssie @MakingTheGrade

I’ve not asked that question but that tracks with what I’ve seen so far. And they don’t do pairs or bracelets, which is just wild to me!

Really??? That's crazy that there's no pairs or bracelets. Weird that strands = yes but bracelets = no. I'd think it would be much easier to get enough pearls for a bracelet because they don't need as many.

I only found this out because I was asking for a supearl/granpearl in a smaller size and was told it doesn't exist.

Yeah mine is 13mm so over the 9mm mark. I haven’t had much luck asking for a supearl akoya in any size lol.

I asked for 7mm or less and obviously that doesn't exist haha

Yeah apparently supearl singles are fewer and farther between these days

At the rate supearls seem to show up - we three will be splitting the single supearl graded in 2030 into thirds…

For the sake of eye candy, these are the highest quality loose pearls in the size I want. According to the vendor (who I trust because I've purchased from general pearl previously), these are gran/supearl quality in terms of luster and lack of blemishes. Deleted prices for the sake of privacy.

I am excited to see them IRL.

That 7.4 has everything goin’ on

Any updates? I want to know if you ended up getting these pearls and what you did with them!

I got both (oops haha), and am trying to figure out another stone to make a toi et moi with one of them :)

Ummm excuse me where are the pictures?? You should also post your inspiration pictures for the ring and see if anyone here has ideas!

Life with a newborn (especially one with medial issues) makes me honestly not want to take pics of anything. I still like helping folks here and window shopping online, but at this moment looking at my own stuff just makes me kind of sad. Especially since this ring is being made in honor of my little one. I know what I want to have made, I just need the motivation to buy the other stone and actually have it created. Sorry for the downer post, but just trying to be honest

Sending you many many many hugs. The newborn phase was probably the hardest phase so far for me (I cried every day for about 8 months). Not much else I can say except I feel for you so much.

Thinking of you @lovedogs I struggle everyday and baby is 6 months old and that's just baby being a baby. Hope everything looks up for you soon. Big hugs.

Oh my goodness I’m sorry that you’re going through a tough time. Please do not apologise because I’m the one who should be sorry for bringing it up! I’m sincerely sorry if I came across as pushy or demanding.

Sending you and your family so much strength and love.

Impressions:
The 7.4mm loose pearl definitely has a pinker overtone than the 5.6mm loose pearl or the strand. Both of the loose pearls are more pink than the strand.

I didn't go through the strand to try and find the "best" pearls among them--I just chose randomly and took the pic. The strand has been sitting in its box for a while so there are definitely some dust specs that aren't blemishes--I just didn't have time/inclination to wipe off each pearl with a cloth prior to taking pics.

Overall, I think my favorite might be the 5.6mm loose. Not exactly sure why--maybe because it's slightly less pink (and pink overtone isn't my favorite usually), and its SO "contrast-y", which is pretty much tied for my top priority in pearls after luster. I like pearls that are as "mirror-like" luster as possible and also show dark/light contrast as sharply as possible. I can overlook minor blemishes and/or overtones that aren't "ideal" (I think in Japan pink overtone is favored, but I might be mistaken) in favor of those other 2 characteristics.

Both of the loose pearls have "sharper" reflections than the strand (not surprising, since the strand was in the 4k range, and for that price there have to be minor compromises (although to be fair, I love the strand and think it's great for me, since the luster and contrast are very high, but there are minor blemishes and some non matching overtones).

Hugs Mom! it will be just a short time in many chapters. Not a downer at all, you are being honest and Mom duties are pretty epic in every way.
