I am looking for GIA or AGL certified stones around 1 carat wt. (I understand that AGL runs a tighter scale on Polish and symmetry)

The specs I am looking at are: Princess cut, Ideal cut, VS1, Excellent Polish, Excellent Symmetry, Color D, No flourecence, girdle medium.

My question is if GIA or AGL have certified the stone with these specifics do I still have to worry about table and depth (besides the fact that I may lose some size in the way the diamond faces)?

I am just a student trying to crash course himself in diamonds.
Thanks a million to anyone who has suggestions.
I just want to get a diamond that blings like it should.
Im also very open to suggestions about where to focus my money to get the most quality sparkle for my buck.

THANKS!!!

If you go with an AGS0 Ideal princess, then you don''t have to worry. You can get great GIA stones, but you''ll have to know the desirable number combinations and see a picture of the stone. I''d look for great princess stones at Good Old Gold, WhiteFlash, and Winfield''s. They''ll have ideal cut stones already selected for you. I don''t see any D VS1''s at the moment, but I''d be willing to bet you couldn''t tell one apart from these:

Ditto and work with a vendor who can provide images such as ASET and detailed photographs to help you choose your Princess regardless of cut grade.

That comes from the CUT, not from color or clarity.

So you can easily open up your options on those. A very well cut stone, which are the options you'll be given here, will mask color and clarity to a certain degree. These stones will not look like many "mall" stones. You will pay more for a great cut, but you can go down in other areas, so it balances out somewhat.

Unless someone is highly sensitive to color (most people aren't), you could easily go to the G-H range. As for clarity, that depends. If you just don't want to see any inclusions, that could go all the way to SI1 (although always ask if eyeclean), and in some cases, SI2. If you want to "know" that it's not very included, then you're looking at the VS1-VS2 category most likely.

Here's a link that might help you understand the ASET report that comes with stones from certain vendors, which I would recommend since you're buying a fancy cut.

And to ds's suggections, I'll throw these in for consideratiion. Feel free to ignore!

(I didn't see any in the G-H range, sometimes inventory dictates what you get, or you can wait for more to come in)

Discount from GOG is bankwire price. And they are great to work with.

This one is actually in a mini video, included. And the video has an I in it, so you can see the difference in color, or not!
