A Hearts on Fire store just opened in the Plaza at the King of Prussia mall. They have some spectacular stones.

I had not been posting on this board for sometime, but what a difference here now. It seems that there are not
many experts i.e. diamond dealers about now, and everyone prefers old cut, wonky (as a personality trait), very large but
very low color. Back in 2002 when I joined most were getting very well cut, D to F color, VVS to Vs1 stones, with a few flawless and a few SI1. Then it became Hearts & Arrows but down to I color with a few people venturing to the J whilst others all said it had too
much color from the side. Now it is larger diamonds 2 carat or a good number get 3,4, 5 carat but below J Color.

I don't think that many people here are interested in ideal cut so much now as they want old cut and larger. Oh and no
education except by other consumers or prosumers it seems. Do notice the appraisers still here though and that is probably
where diamonds of large $ value should be taken which a 5 carat stone would be I would think.

I notice also that the competition website has now practically closed, is this site going the same way. Is it the Internet Tax which
is coming in that is making people look local or is it to see old cuts with their own eyes to judge the fire and personality????

When I said very well cut, I meant good proportions for light return and symettry but it seems this is seen more as cooky cutter type now and not really 'well cut' . Although I think the knowledge which has come from the cut experts (Garry Holloway) has meant that people who have educated themselves here or asking pro sumers like Dreamer D are getting well cut as it edge to edge light return and good pattern because of the education in the past or the higher standards in diamond cutting today.

The old cuts are usually very well cut now when shown on this forum are they the same though in all local jewellers?.

I also notice that this forum without the experts is becoming more like the old competitor forum in days past where there was more concern about style of jewelry, side stones etc rather than technical details like crown angle, lower girdle facet degree etc.

In other words, this forum is more like a girls around the coffee table chat or like you would discuss with work colleages about the look of your ring, halo etc rather than educational. Are we back now to how a diamond looks to an individual with some preferring one stone to another, I mean Valmanin s ring for instance was good with both diamonds but she preferred the second. Are the local jewellers going to win now after all the hard work those with cutting experience have put into this site?!!

Interesting perspective. I've definitely seen changes in the past year with less vendors posting and more "experts" chiming in.
