i found this great trilogy ring on ebay, but i have been scared a little by an article online about moissanite and how much it looks like diamond. now i'm doubting to buy it, because i am no expert on diamonds. i mean, i can see the inclusions in mine, but apparently moissanite has them too. what criteria do you have for buying on ebay?
thanks
a.

My criteria is to never buy on eBay.

I like to be sure of what I'm getting for my money, even if it is a small amount of money.
I'm not the type who likes to think I'm lucky or smart enough to get something for nothing.

That's my opinion.
It applies to me . . . but you asked for it.

Others have differing opinions and that's fine.

I would only buy from a seller with nearly 100% positive feedback and a no-questions-asked return policy.

Yep, a great return policy and I also wouldn't buy anything that does not have a GIA appraisal.

are there fake GIA reports out there?

I say it is 100% safe to buy on ebay if you are 100% satisfied with the return policy. Do you have a local jeweler you can bring it to to test that the stones are real?

I bought an eternity ring on ebay for a ridiculously good price, had the exact same concerns you did. It had a 10 day money back no questions asked return policy (from a private seller, not a store). I got the ring, brought it to my jeweler and got his opinion & had him confirm the stones were real. Couldn't be happier with it.

yeah, i should find a 'diamantair'! and a seller with a good return policy

I've bought vintage items on ebay because they have a better selection out there than other locations.

That said I only buy from people who have like a 99.9% or better rating (I do allow a little under 100% because some people are *never* happy) but I do read the comments carefully. If there are a lot of returns I don't bother.

And a 100% return policy with at least 7 days is a requirement.

I also take my item to someone to verify that it is real and at least relatively close to how it was described.

Read up on moissanites. They do have inclusions, but they are *very* distinctive compared to diamonds. The over all color of both are different with moisssanite being more greenish or grayish in color. They also are double refractive while diamonds are single refractive so you can pretty easily tell the difference under a loupe between the two. But if you have no idea what to look for a trusted jeweler or appraiser can help you.

thanks! yeah, i did read up on moissanite, but the only really distinct difference between them is the light and refraction and stuff is just not what am am skilled at seeing. color and inclusions i can see, but that wouldn't make me stop doubting.

There is a *huge* difference with moissanites inclusions and diamonds. They are really so distinctive that there would be no confusing if you saw them. Here's a site with photos to help

Really I can tell moissanite from diamond with my naked eye. They really don't look anything a like IMO. CZ is actually harder to identify vs diamond IMO. They have way more similarities.

But like I said I take all purchases to a trusted appraiser or jeweler for testing. As long as they have a great money back guarantee I would not fret too much.

i have taken the plunge and put in an offer on a ring on ebay :appl:
