Hi all! Long time member, hobbyist and lurker but it''s been a while after heading overseas - so it looks like my previous account has lapsed? Good to see many of you are still here!

As luck would have it, I''m finally in the market for a diamond of significance and my first stop was Jonathan with GOG based on his constant ongoing effort to educate us all with his site and tremendously informative videos. I spoke with him on Monday with the preliminaries, but to give you the run down, I''m hunting for:

Square Cushion (l/w 1.08 or less) - in the 2.20 to 2.65 ct range.

My preference is, and always will be for, the chunky faceted cushion, but the bride-to-be has seen some modern brilliants that she likes. I always steer away from the "crushed ice" look as much as I can.

Her emphasis is also on size and sparkle. As a result, I''m willing to compromise on color (H or I) and clarity (VS1-SI1) as long as I get the sparkle and fire that I''ve seen in some of these stones. Noting, that I''ve even seen Jonathan pull some SI2 cushions with amazing optics.

I will be sure to keep you all posted on the hunt - with as many pictures and videos as possible. As you feedback is always much appreciated and I can only hope to end up with a finished product that is as beautiful as many of yours that I have seen (e.g. Cehrabehra, Boston Jeff, etc.)

Welcome back.

How fun going shopping. Of course my vote is for GOG signature cushion, after you see that , how can you pick anything else? I am a tad bias since I own one of these.

If she wants sparkle... it definitely sparkles. Has she seen the GOG cushion in person? I would not cross out an SI2 if it is eye clean... it can give you more stone for the money. I have an SI2 and I have a hard time looking for it even with a loupe! Have fun in your search, I won''t wish you luck since you won''t need it with Jonathan helping in your search. Keep us updated with the rock (2.20 to 2.65 ct range is a rock!) options you get. We want to help you shop

Do you have a setting in mind yet?

Beautiful setting. Love the halo and split shank. Do you know if she likes halos? That is a big rock to halo.

Hey welcome back! Great ring. And you sure can't go wrong with any of those gorgeous new cushions from GOG. Jon is creating quite a stir around these parts with those!!!

BTW, what was your old user name?!

Hey, I''m not sure what kind of timeline you''re on. But you might be interested in Jon''s upcoming August Vintage OECs. Maybe you saw the videos. I''m waiting to see how they turn out.

Cheers!

Hey all: Here''s what I''m working with so far:

http://www.vimeo.com/6655712

Notably, the last two as I''m leaning more toward a 250:

- Just-in: Modern Faceted 2.22 G VS1 (no specs yet)
- Vintage 2.49 H SI1 (http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5415/) - has been in inventory for a little while

I tend to want to stear away from the modern faceted (although this one in particular does have some nice optics) and I do like the 2.49 H SI1 but am not blown away like some of the other GOG cushions I''ve seen.

Thoughts?

I agree on that 2.49 - it was an average cushion but not even close the same caliber as some of those others that were just amazing. I''d hold out.

I''m not blown away either, by any of them. If it were me, I''d wait til something better comes along (maybe get on the waiting list). The 2.49 H is the best one imo, however to me it seems dead under the table. Having seen a lot of these OMC cushions, you can do better.

Love the setting you''ve picked! One of his cushions will look gorgeous in that.
