This. I hope that you are an engaged couple now and that it was perfectly lovely (as I'm sure it was, no matter how you did it!). Don't keep us in suspense!!

I am in similar situation, Her birthday is October and anniversary 3 year is at the end of August. Should be picking up the ring this morning. I am just going to get it over with today

 Gypsy, you have the most amazing "mind conversations"!! I totally "get" this!!! It's so dead on accurate for the majority of women... you amaze me each an every time, when you zero in on things and completely nail it!! I wish I could be a neuron in your brain and enjoy all the banter that takes place in there!!!

Thank you honey.

Here's hoping "no news" means that things went well!

I love how you think! you are just so dead on - its uncanny!

As a current lady in waiting, here's my piece: The first time she ever mentions engagement is when she's the most flusterdly-in-love. After a while of obsessing over the thought of engagement, it slowly creeps to resentment. I still think you have a LONG ways to go to reach the resentment stage.. so you can take your time if that's what YOU want. An engagement isn't just about her, it's about YOU too. If you want the proposal to be more elaborate, with a wait, then do that. No one else should tell you elsewise. Just don't let it creep into the resentment stage! Those "finally!" comments from friends and family aren't exactly welcoming when you're trying to enjoy engagement bliss.

However, I think you holding on to that ring will only cause more anxiety on your part. The longer you hold on to it, the more pressure you'll give yourself to make a more elaborate proposal.. when it really doesn't need to be elaborate. Like, you'd feel the need to get more and more elaborate just to justify holding onto it for so long.

If you do decide to go with proposing in SD, I have to 'thritto' the posts about the Hotel Del. I *love* that place. Actually anywhere in Coronado is beautiful. You can even make a short commute over to Temecula, and go wine tasting or go on a winery tour. That's beautiful too.

And yes, please check back in with us! I love hearing about proposals ^__^. It's half the reason I'm stuck with PS.. !

Hi.. curious if you've proposed yet! Just wanted to let you know that if you DO go to the hotel del, there is currently a Facebook offer. If you click on their page on Facebook, and claim their offer, you get a 1 category room upgrade. =)

OOo i would do it sooner rather than later!

Two reasons - first, do you think you can keep the secret that long without any hints etc?
second, if she has started hinting, then 3 months in "lady hint brain" is forever! I started hinting, then i started being annoyed than my DH hadnt popped the q yet (after 6 years and MANY chats about it). In the end, I had a blow out at him, for him to tell me he had been ring shopping that day!!

SO if she is anything like me, dont let her wait to be annoyed when there is no reason for it at all!

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Sorry for taking so long to update this thread.

I did in fact propose to her on August 12th (last Sunday). I've been enjoying the vacation and engagement since then which is why I hadn't been back on to update everyone.

We wound up driving to Coronado and going to the Hotel Del but it was unbelievably crowded and there was a beach wedding going on while we were there.

The timing didn't seem right so we drove back up to Carlsbad (close to where my family lives) and I proposed to her at sunset while we were sitting on the beach. It was perfect for us and she agreed that I picked a perfect time and place to do it. She was very surprised to say the least. She didn't think I would be proposing until next summer after I finished school.

I will have to try and get some hand shots for everyone soon. Thanks for everyone's help!

Congratulations GMU!!! That's wonderful! so glad it all worked out - see, no matter where or when, it was perfect - how romantic at sunset!!! I'm so happy for you both - now ---- bring on the ring shots!!! STAT! :naughty:

Great news!!! :appl: Congratulations!

I'm so happy for you! I think that the perfect opportunity usually presents itself. A close friend of mines now fiance planned a very romantic hike to a spot by the river where he planned to propose over a picnic lunch. While hiking my friend tripped over some uneven ground and they thought that she had broken her ankle. Her fiance had to carry her all the way back to the car and rush to her to the ER. He ended up proposing in an examining room while they waiting for her xrays to be read. She thinks it was the most romantic proposal ever. Later at home he set up a picnic on the floor of their living room and celebrated the engagement and that she had only sprained and not broken her ankle. It was perfectly them! Congratulations to both you and your fiance. :appl:

Congratulations!!!

Aren't you glad you didn't wait months to propose?? Enjoy the engagement!

See, THAT is an awesome proposal!! It's a great story than is different that most people have. My proposal was while I was in college and DH was out of college by several years (he's 6 years older than me). We had looked at rings and I knew it was coming, and suspected that it would happen during our trip to Boston. My class had been cancelled for the morning so I decided to sleep in and I got a call from DH saying he was outside my building and I let him in. He had woken me up, so you can imagine...unkempt hair, ugly pajamas, morning breath, etc. He came in, got on one knee, expressed his feelings and said referred to some "us" things and proposed. It was the best thing ever! I had no idea it was coming that day (a few days before the Boston trip), and the surprise element was much more meaningful than what I looked like! LOL!

He had gone to pick up my ring that morning and just could NOT wait to give it to me. He drove to my building with it on his pinky so he could keep looking at it.  He was just so excited and that meant more to me than anything fancy!

eta: I should add that when I mean "THAT is an awesome proposal" I don't want to diss anyone else's experience, because ALL of them are great, but I'm just a huge fan of what ended up happening. :-) Any proposal where it is accepted is awesome. :-)

Yay!!! Congrats, so happy to hear that you did it and that it went well! She must be over the moon! Can't wait for hand shots!!! :)
