I found a stone that I am interested in online, but it has a slightly thick to very thick girdle. I gather that this is not the ideal. Can someone tell what affect this will have on the diamond?

Also, what does it mean when a girdle is faceted, and is this a good or bad thing?

Any information will be greatly appreciated!

There's LOTS of info on girdles around here... it's been discussed many times in the past. If you do a search (just type in "girdle") you'll get LOTS of great information!

Depends on what shape of stone you are looking at...on a heart shape, it probably wouldn't be a problem, but a round would be another issue.

A faceted girdle is simply that, a girdle which is faceted like the rest of the stone...as compared to a polished or bruted girdle.

Personally, I prefer a faceted girdle because it represents a nice touch on completing the stone...also, and many will NOT agree with me on this, but I think it will not pick up dirt, grease and metal fragments, causing a graying effect, like a bruted girdle and will also be easier to clean.
