bwahahaha so true!

I'll be 36 in October-am I too young to hang out w/this crowd? I have a lot of those weird red dot things too all over me, if I need some kinda badge to enter or anything. Oh, and my boobs are saggy and one is lower than the other.
Packy, you don't need a badge, just baggage! We'll let you in by virtue of your askew boobage.

Getting older is definitely an interesting phenomena. Heck, I just bought a pair of diamond studs off ebay because they fit into my current budget, and I don't want to waste any more time waiting for something I would really like to have! How many years do I have left to enjoy pretty jewelry? I know, it's morbid and depressing...but I also feel that it's realistic. And the good news is I really like the earrings, and they're giving me a lot of joy.
Amen, sista!!! Buying your own bling is one of the hallmarks of embracing your age! I have a fanstastic husband, but he has no interest whatsoever in buying me presents. So he lets me buy my own!! I have the joy of searching for the perfect stone, and then hemming and hawing over what the perfect mounting of would be. Then I get to enjoy working with all of these fabulous artisans I've gotten to know about through Pricescope. SO NEVER DENY YOURSELF BLING AGAIN!!!

Honey, I think it's called tinnitus.

We'll all be here. And if it seems like we don't understand, its just likely that we didn't hear you very well.

What?

To address the Cialis/Viagra/Creepy Bob commercials.... what the hell is with the side-by-side bathtubs on the hillside?

I need a nap now.

soocool~I have the red dots and my derm said that it's nothing to worry about it. I have brown circles/patches, which are raised, on my legs and arms. Mainly on my lower legs. Being in the sun makes them worse and increases the number. They are a form of keratosis. Because I have recurrent skin cancer, I have to be very careful about being in the sun, in general. My last skin CA was a melanoma, so my doctors are watching me like a hawk. I'm so sorry you are dealing with all of those medical problems. I am, too. I sometimes wonder how much longer I can hold it together. I don't have a terminal illness, but there is so much wrong that I find it difficult to manage it all.
And it is always so much worse when you have no one to talk with about it. And I mean just talk, not look for sympathy or strategies, not with any expectation of making it better. But sometimes just being able to say to someone, "today is really hard" makes things somehow a little easier. ;-)

You raise an excellent point. I'm not looking for sympathy. I want to be able to talk about what is going on without the listener or me having an expectation of a solution. Empathy would be nice. My life is what is it is. I hope that my mood improves. I would like to be in less pain. What are the chances that the two are related....

Now you're getting to the "chicken and the egg" discussion related to fibromyalgia.

Doctor says, "You're depressed. You need more exercise. That will help your outlook and diminish the pain."
Patient says, "It hurts to exercise. I've waited three months for this appointment and this is all you have to tell me?!? No wonder I'm cranky and depressed!"
Doctor says, "That'll be $160 for the office visit."
Patient says, "I don't have insurance since I can't work because of the pain."
Doctor says, "We'll let you do payments."
Patient says, "Sure. More debt will cheer me right up."

Re: Getting older isn't so bad when you consider the alterna

One of the challenges of aging well is keeping a positive outlook. I have recently made a new friend, a lovely 91 yr. old woman who is my neighbor. She simply will not let anything get her down, keeps active, and is looking for an 80 yr. old boy toy who can cook. At lunch a few months ago with a bunch of other female friends, she mentioned that her libido is very strong and she was frustrated trying to find a way to deal with it. She had spoken to her doctor about it but he seemed appalled that a 91 yr. old would still want sex.

I asked her if she had heard about "the rabbit", went on to explain the advantages of said sex toy and she asked me to buy one for her. I did and when I gave it to her she said "don't call an ambulance if you hearing screaming coming from my house." LOL.

Packrat, I hereby make you an honorary member of the red dot club...oh, and the saggy boob club, and weird hair in a strange place club, and crusty heel club...oh, forget it...of course you can hang out with us old geezers, this crowd is gonna need a slightly younger perspective sometimes! Oh, and you can hang out with us because I like you lol

Uppy, could you please move in next door to me and just make me laugh all day long?

Yet another post-40 issue that we needn't scare the younguns with. :Up_to_something:

Though, if you're seeking opinions, Poise light liners seem to do the job fine. Unless I'm suffering through a case of bronchitis. Then I gotta go full on Depends.

My doc gave me exercises to do and they've helped some. Months go by without a problem and then there are times when if I blink too hard... I have also mastered the art of standing with my legs crossed for those surprise leaks. See a lot of women doing that in the grocery store. Legs firmly but elegantly crossed, finger on chin, trying to choose between whole or cut beets. Probably think they look hip, but I know what they're doing -- trying not to drip in their drawers. Oh yeah, I been there, can't fool me.

Re: Getting older isn't so bad when you consider the alterna

Can I just add "ditto" to everything in this thread? Thanks, Uppy, for starting this thread -- it made my day reading it. I love the witty banter "women of a certain age" develop.

This is now my official "first stop" thread when I check in on PS.

And can I also add that having friends die (in droves, it seems lately) is something I was ill-prepared for. I'll be 53 this winter, which seems "young" to be losing people my own age. A friend of mine was recently widowed (she's 55 and her husband was just 58 years old when he died). Her pain is raw, and almost tangible, and the worst part is there's nothing -- absolutely nothing -- any of us can do to make the pain go away. When I was younger, I of course knew that marriages ended though the death of a spouse, but until I saw the pain of widowhood up close and personal, I don't think I ever realized how life is just never the same for the remaining spouse, and I certainly never realized how big a void a friend's death can leave. And you just have to deal with it, as it happens, and as it is. There's no "fix." After my friend's husband died, I seriously when through a stage where I just wanted to cry where's the Hallmark ending?????

Ugh. Is it too early for a cocktail? I do have some nice "middle-aged and I've earned it" bling to wear for cocktail hour!

Pour me a grande margarita, please, Uppy -- I'm so sick of this gross, hot, humid, buggy summer. And I can't wear halter tops and short-shorts because of all the aforementioned skin issues. ETA: But I can still wear BLING!!!

I'll bring a drool cup for admiring your new ring :lickout: and I'll make sure to arrive sporting a Poise pad, because I know I'll suffer some "leakage" because I'm laughing so hard at all you ladies -- oh, god, the comments about the "stiffy ads" and the legs crossed in the grocery store...stop....stop...or at least wait until I can get a reload on the Poise pad!

Sorry to interrupt, I'm lurking in your thread because I enjoy all of you so much (your posts are so insightful and well thought out) and would like to learn from your wisdom.
(sounds cheesy, but I mean it)

I wanted to start a thread about this issue but have been too embarrassed. I understand every word you're saying here. -- laughing, sneezing, ...... (liners are a wonderful thing).

Is there anything to help this? Matata -- what sort of exercises?

Kegel, kegel, kegel

There has been an ad on TV lately about some insertable device that can help you tone your yoohoo. It's connected by cords to a display to monitor your progress. Now..... let's take a moment and visualize.......... :errrr:

The commercial has these ladies jumping around on a trampoline. Male marketing team there, because trampoline jumping is the activity that gives me the most trouble.

Ok, so then I'd have a non-leaking yoohoo strong enough to crack walnuts and still no libido. I suppose there's a silver lining in there somewhere (takes another sip of vodka tonic hoping for enlightenment).

I think this will be my go to thread from now on.. You all are hysterical, and it's fun to have a laugh at all that is going on.

Leakage?? My clue was when I was jumping on the trampoline showing the kids some tricks. And I was in my late 30's. Gah!!!!

Just a few years ago I was a working woman taking care of my children. Now I'm a 54 year old with a bad back taking care of my grandchildren. What happened? My 80 year old in-laws live with us as does my 40 year old sister. My husband had a major heart attack this May. Thankfully he is fully recovered and back to work. I don't generate any income and most of my time is spent taking care of others. Not what I expected many years ago, but life doesn't always go as planned. And I'm ok with that. Since plan A didn't work out, I'm on plan B and working on C and D. Of course if I don't write it down I won't remember anyway. And I've got those red spot things going on too. Did I mention the gray hair on my head and the black hairs on my chin? :))

Linda

Thanks for this post, Sparkalin. I can definitely relate to the "What happened?" feeling. I'd love to hear how other women deal with these feelings. Hint: And it ain't the stuff of "Eat, Pray, Love" == rant warning == I hated that book!!!! Seriously, who lives like that?? Oh, wait, I know...

Re: Getting older isn't so bad when you consider the alterna

Both of my grandmothers wore housedresses! My Ukranian grandmother (who lived to 97) wore black for all of my life that I remember, but always a dress. She was a "Rosie the riveter" during the war (in Canada here). My other grandmother made her own clothes, she sewed beautifully and always wore a full apron for cooking. I'm starting to see the comfort value these might have had...like the muumus?

Is anyone else sick of wearing a bra? Some people might wait until what they think is a decent hour to have a cocktail at night, while I guess at how soon it's appropriate to take off my bra! Pretty sure this was NOT a concern of my grandmothers. ;)) Underwire is not kind at my age, but non-underwire is equally as uncomfortable and sweaty. :nono:

This just pushed me over into the Depends category. Matata, you are a riot. Poise pads are no match for your sense of humor :appl:
