LOL... I'm 42 and this is my upgrade ring. My first ring we bought when we were 23, young and dumb (no offense.. internet was new and there was no real great way for independent education... I had Tiffany send me a booklet).
That ring is a .75 round, color H, FLAWED not only can you see chunks of carbon, but there is also a bubble in it that you can see if you have the ring in your hand and are looking at it closely.
We have been married 16.5 years now and I figured unless I bought the exact ring I wanted, I was never going to get it.
I bought an Asscher
GIA
very good cut
1.52 carat
G color
VS1 (nothing on the middle face of the diamond)
Very good symmetry
Excellent polish
69.7% depth
62% table
6.35mm x 6.15mm x 4.29 mm
I had it set in a 4 prong platinum setting.
I went back and forth about the settings because I do like Halo settings. BUT the reason I have always loved Asschers is because of the stone itself. I'm not looking for a giant piece of bling. I am looking for a beautiful and intricate stone.
So I have been reading about how a 1.5 Asscher only faces up like a 1 round. Here are my thoughts on that.... I totally understand that point.
But to me, a 1.52 Asscher looks like a 1.52 Asscher. The general public may believe it is a 1 carat, but Asscher lovers will know it is an excellent stone.
NOW... I haven't seen my ring in person yet. lol. It comes tomorrow! With Blue Nile, they have the 30 day return policy and this stone does qualify for their diamond upgrade policy. However, that policy states that the new diamond has to be 100% greater than the original stone. So for a 12K diamond, the new one would have to be 24K or more.
I honestly think that is dumb. I guess BN doesn't want a bunch of people upgrading every few years. I don't understand why they would turn down someone trading a 12k diamond for an 18k diamond, for example.... that is a 6K profit for them (minus housekeeping, etc).
So the way I look at it... I have 30 days to BE SURE this is what I want. I know Asschers have a learning curve and it is a cut you really shouldn't buy online. But I live in a small down and no jewelry stores carry Asschers anyway.
I am so excited to share this with others! Dh isn't thrilled I did this, but we can most definitely afford it (not a question) and he is nearly over it 2 days later. lol.
See you guys tomorrow with a photo!
