Hi all....I am new! I''m sooo excited to be posting! Well I have a question...I got engaged last July. I love my e-ring. Its 1.80 and its setting is a one row bead set. Much like the Tiffany bead set. However, I have decided to switch it up and give myself an upgrade. I want to do shared prong with point 8 diamonds a little more then half way around. My question is then should I set my diamond lower so there is a gap or higher so they my wedding band fits flush? Which looks better with a shared prong no gap or gap? Can people please send me PICS????? Thank you!

I think if you do a search on the SMTR section you will find an entire thread on gaps....if not more than one.

Type in Gap

LOTS of threads to chose from. Lots of pics.

It''s personal preference, but for my 2 cents'' worth, I absolutely do NOT want a gap between my rings. I have a very low-profile square gallery, so this will require a curved band.

The only thing I would worry about is that with a shared-prong engagement band (and a similar shared-prong wedding band), and especially with relatively large stones, the diamonds might rub up against each other and cause scratching/chipping. A gap might help prevent that.

Personally, I'm a gap girl - the bigger the better! Makes my finger look longer and more slender (my shorty fingers need all the help they can get), I think, and I just prefer a more eclectic look versus a matching look. Plus, there's something about that delicious "clink" noice the rings make when they tap against each other which I just LOVE.

But it's really a matter of preference. When seeking a gap, just make sure that the thickness of the 2 rings are similar - I had this problem once (e-ring was daintier than the eternity band) and the gap didn't quite work. But my set now is perfection. Maybe visit some B&Ms to try different types of sets on and see what you think?

I vote for no gap... Just a personal preference.

My ring will definitely have a gap. Is sorta something I didn''t think about until AFTER I picked it up at the jeweler.

(whoops... hit submit too soon)

I think its just personal preference, if it bothers you there are tons of rings and designs that allow the wedding band to sit flush.

I think flush is my fave and if you get a matching bead set wedding band the look would be just gorgeous. And if you have to raise the diamond a little, it shouldn''t look too high once the band is next to it....

Its friday, and I might not be making sense. Good luck and let us know what you pick!!!!

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies...I''m going to my Jeweler tomorrow (Saturday). I''m bringing some pics and I''m gonna try to figure this thing out! I just miss my ring and can''t wait to get this over with so I can wear it again! I will keep you posted!

I actually prefer a little bit of a gap...that way it looks more like 2 rinds instead of 1.

i love gaps! I actually had the choice to have my EC halo ring slightly altered to prevent the gap, but when I went home and looked at my set again, I decided to keep the gap. I dunno...it''s so classy looking that way. I don''t remember who said it, but it''s true that jewelry worn together should not be matchy-matchy....the pieces should be close cousins, but not twin sisters. Heh...that''s exactly how I feel.

Thats a good way to think about it! I love it. As I keep looking at pics I''m thinking GAP is the way to go. It also fits my personality more as well as my style. Thanks for your input!

RINGS!

I like my wedding rings to match. It fits with my sense of aesthetics and balance. My shared prong rings have a very small gap, which is part of the design--it keeps the friction between the rings to a minimum.
