Gabriel and Co setting prongs

So this is the setting my girlfriend wants in all platinum.

I am having it special ordered to fit my diamond and in platinum. The only issue is that my girlfriend is worried about the prongs and thinks that they are too thick. What do you guys think? Would most Jewelers be comfortable shaving them down to be a little more delicate? Would I be risking them coming out uneven and ruining the whole setting? Any info or past experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I hope they are sending your diamond to G and Co to set? If so, have them request that the prongs be a bit more delicate. I wouldn't necessarily trust the local jeweler to do that right, and then you are stuck.

In reality, though, these pictures are so highly magnified that everything looks so much more delicate in person.

In case you don't know this, she'll need a thin, low spacer band to wear between this ring and the wedding band so this ring doesn't scratch up the wedding band or the wedding band rub against the diamonds on the side.

Oh I actually didn't know that, thank you so much. They have my diamond but didn't send it to gabriel to be set. I may be able to ask them to do that though. I guess you're saying you recommend that.

Some setting makers prefer that and sometimes only honor the warranty if they do the setting. Let me check and see if I can ask someone specifically about G&Co. I just know not all local jewelers are great doing prongs from being here a long time!

While I await the answer to that question, another thing you can do is go in your jeweler and let her see some of their rings that already have a center stone set, and have her show them one that has prongs that she likes before letting them set it. I have experienced this myself. Some jewelers are not good at prongs.

Okay, I think it can be done either way. Some people might not want their diamond sent so local jewelers can set the stones. I would ask the jeweler to show you both rings that their setter has set like I mentioned before. That way you can be sure that person is able to do nice prongs. Then take a picture of the one you like, and be certain that one is shown to the bench person. You might even want to document it by emailing the photo to the jeweler as a reminder of how she wants the prongs to look. Much better to be proactive than to have to fix a problem after the fact!
